Additional table syntaxes should be implemented in independent CPAN packages and dynamically oaded only if needed (see Catmandu::Util). A format parameter could be used to specify table syntax with default value markdown for Text::MarkdownTable. More candidates for syntaxes:

format=grid to use Text::TabularDisplay
format=ansi to use Text::ANSITable (possibly additional options to control border style etc.)
