I think that modify the chassis that we have now is not ideal:

It is good enough.
We may be able to borrow Velodyne (the lidar which cost a ton). At least the professor think so.
To reduce the cost is not ideal, since we did actually built it already.

Therefore, I think we should attend the competition:

This competition need turtlebot burger which we already have it, and we only need to deal with slam. Sounds easier than modifying the TDK chassis.

The competition already ended in August, but I plan to attend the 2023 Autorace. But note that the rules of next year haven't been released yet.
