Add scaffold for tests. Ref #1. #2

As discussed in #1, I think it would be helpful to build out a set of tests for this repository. Once we have a few tests set up, I'll feel more comfortable about making some updates.

This is a small pull request to add:

A GitHub workflow that should run on pull requests to the main branch.
An example test that will run (and pass) with pytest

Normally I'd expect the test to have run already, but this doesn't seem to have happened. It's possible that they weren't triggered because I'm an external contributor. Do you see a "Run tests" button on the pull request somewhere? If so, please could you click it?

Hmm. I don't see anything of that nature. We might need to get this merged first before that's available?
