Resolve notes and scripts into chronological order and declare obsolete. #19

I'd like to move development of this project to the repo https://github.com/NCAR/rdai.

Tom, can you create such a repo and give me push access?

Here's my reasoning for obsoleting this repository and starting fresh.

Hi Colton,

I have added you to the NCAR/RDA team on Github. You should now have write/push access in this space. I'm thinking more about the repo name, and think I want to keep the 'rda-image-archive' name for the project, if possible. The reason for this is that we have a standard name pattern for all of the RDA repos in the form of 'rda-repo-name', and I'd like to do the same for this one, too ('rda-rdai' is a bit redundant and confusing).

Can you investigate if we can do this by creating a new release (select the 'Releases' tab near the top of of the rda-image-archive repo) and carrying forward only what we want into the new release? The original repo that is in place right now could be tagged as release 0.1.0, and the new release could be release 0.2.0, or perhaps 0.2.0-alpha to make it clear this is still a project under development.

I'll look more into this myself to make sure there isn't a better way of doing this.

  • This repo is bloated (pushing the limit for github to host it at some 80 MB), which prevents folks from actually cloning it and using it.
  • This repo has more test code than production code, which is a bane to debugging.
  • However, this repo has a transparent commit history, as well as relevant, if outstanding, open issues.
  • While both the commit history and the issues were useful for brainstorming and determining what should be done. I'd prefer to release a fresh version of software for image providers and image archivists.
  • I can't release a fresh version from this repo without destroying this repo's commit history.
