Refactor examples #44

This pull-request contains commits which refactor the existing example scripts into a command line utility called fetch-model.

@lukecampbell Can you capture some of this into docs as you go? You can make a docs directory and put rst or md files, or notebooks as you see fit. I haven't had a chance yet to set up the packaging but the hard part is the content.
