Retiring characters, give gold and not just XP #49

Currently, if you retire a character you can give half of that character's levels to the next character you create. Eg. retiring a level 10 character gives 5 levels to the next character you create.

This is a very bad idea, and I've had to multiple times wait until the next reset after deleting a character before making a new one, just so I wouldn't get that bonus. The reason why is because you start with basically no money and no gear, and walking around as a level 4 or 6 or 8 character with no gear and no money is an exercise in frustration. Especially since the beggar only gives fetch quests to level 1 characters, all other characters AFAIK get thrown into very dangerous dungeon areas and will have next to nothing to protect themselves with.

This is more of an issue for gear-reliant characters, of course.

When people retire their characters, let the next character have a bit of money to go along with the levels they'll be getting. Nothing crazy, just enough to get a full plate or something.

A more radical suggestion: Don't let the next character start with half level. Let them start with half notoriety instead.

Also an excellent suggestion. Never, fortunately, needed to make use of it, but half level with no gear or note seems like a punishment rather than a boon.

Perhaps let the player choose what they would prefer; a gold bonus, or perhaps a free craft (or two, or three, etc.) depending on the level of PC retired. Notoriety I can see being a hard push-back in that a PC establishes notoriety over time in Thay...no one arrives famous. Well, except in their own mind. lol

I agree TOTALLY that I never take the free levels. I did that once...once. ;) More like an exercise in the Fugue Plane. :P
