The problem I have with this is that it goes a bit towards the "stupid evil" stereotype. I mean... Burmy mainly goes for the first option as, well, antagonizing someone cooperative to her goals, that usually gives their item for free, is a poor approach going forwards. Does that make her good? :P
The second reply is just as polite as the first one.
I world only want non dm alignment shifts in terms I can control. I can't control when I get sent on such quests, and I wouldn't want to have to decide which way I am swinging my alignment from the moment I receive the quest. I don't mind the way it is now because it gives me control over when and how alignment shift happens.
While I agree that it could be great to have more ways of changing alignment without just straight up asking a DM (though that has not been much of an issue the few times I had it happen tbh) I think associating "Good" with "polite" is a misstep. I think a lot of the truly Good-aligned people in Thay are rude and standoffish, honestly. And I'd like it to be possible to play on that also with NPCs.

Except as I said, the second reply would be a neutral answer and offer no shift in alignment. Everybody wins.
Currently there are not a lot of ways to change your alignment on the server, though the ones that we have are great. But some methods are illegal and can land you in a great deal of trouble, or feel rather metagame-y (like donating to certain temples just for an alignment shift.) So having some other, smaller ways to shift alignment would be a wonderful thing to have. My suggestion for this is the "get me X item from this specific person" quest which already seems almost like it's intended to do this.
When you bribe the item from the NPC, you have three options of conversation to choose from. I'm paraphrasing but they go a little like:
Based on which answer you choose from, it would be nice if you could shift your alignment towards good (by choosing option 1) or evil (option 3), and have the option 2 answer be the the neutral one, thus giving no change. Even if it would be based on chance, and not a guaranteed shift, it would add some weight to your conversation options and cause a person to think about what kind of reply they want to give.
