on nightly `:Neogit` fails to open in new git repo

Description

After creating a new repo with git init neogit fails to open until there is a least one commit.

git bisect results in commit 113852396e077e5b16954b7c2b13aac2adfffbfd causing the issue.

NVIM v0.10.0-dev-b501a23 Build type: Release LuaJIT 2.1.1693350652

Expected behavior

Neogit opens without an error

Actual behavior

Neogit errors with
