Hogwarts Legacy Crash #71

I have installed version 0.41 in the Hogwarts Legacy/Phoenix/Binaries/Win64 folder, In theory it is installed well because when I go to start the game I get the mod message, I have the msi afterbourner closed, I did all the steps, and when the game music starts playing the game closes suddenly, Now I have tried with the dlsstweaks version and it is still the same, the game closes just before loading the shaders

FlowersPowerz commented 9 months ago

how do you activate the frame gen option? mine is grayed out

hlermoyeux commented 9 months ago

same for me

Jackich2 commented 9 months ago

I can’t even see the window with fsr3, tried 0.5 without success yet

Do you have activated the sharpening in the game settings? After I have set sharpening with activated FG the game always crashed at the start. I startet the game without the mod, disabled sharpening and it worked again but the game is realy unstable, it is crashing very often, dont know where the problem is ...

I also needed some time to get it to work. I heard it only works with the dlsstweaks version and with that it realy works for me. You have to copy all the files in this folder \Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Binaries\Win64

MJ12MJ commented 9 months ago

"Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Binaries\Win64 (you should have hogwartslegacy.exe in this folder, this is where all the files should be put). Same for DLSSTweaks if you're using it, everything goes here."

Don't use sharpening and in game vsync, and don't use any overlay in background like RTSS. If the game keep crashing, go to %localappdata% Here you should have "Hogwarts Legacy" folder, find "WindowsNoEditor" folder and delete it, then restart the game and try FG options appears only if you use Nvidia DLSS, without selecting this upscaling method the options will still looks greyed out.

Akentrus commented 9 months ago

The newest version works for me on the steamversion of the game. It needs to be in this folder:

"Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Binaries\Win64"

Like @MJ12MJ said.

I am getting a stable 120 FPS nearly double as much than before.

MJ12MJ commented 9 months ago

i already done that but every time i do this i got the massage pop up and the nvidia dlss disappear Screenshot 2023-12-19 132511

Reset your ingame settings, search on windows %localappdata% Then look for Hogwarts Legacy folder, inside that folder look for WindowsNoEditor and delete it, this restores the game options.

Working in CP2077 and Alan Wake 2 for me but I can't seem to get it started for UE games, specifically Hogwarts Legacy and Jedi Survivor. I've placed the files in the correct folder and when I click play on steam, the exe launches in the background. Nothing appears at the taskbar and the exe can be seen using memory in task manager. Any suggestions?

It's better to reset game settings, because if you had something enabled before putting FG Mod (like VSYNC or DLSS Sharpening), the game is gonna crash on boot.

%localappdata%

i did what u said and still the same Screenshot 2023-12-19 133806 Screenshot 2023-12-19 133814

What mod version are you using? did you touch the dbghelp.dll file?

Jackich2 commented 9 months ago

If I have use EnableNvidiaSigOverride game no lauche, if i restore NvidiaSigOverride , game launche but no work mod...

no i didn't, i used the latest one 0.50

Are you sure you didn't leave any other files behind? did you check if you didn't put anything in the wrong directory and forgot about it? At this point, if you sure you didn't put the same files elsewhere in the game directory, go back to %localappdata% and delete the WindowsNoEditor folder, after that go back to the game directory and delete dbghelp.dll and then check integrity of game files via steam.

FlowersPowerz commented 9 months ago

i have the same exact problem, when i put the mod in the folder, the dlss disappear from the settings

Are you using the Jack sparrow version or the normal one?

I use DLSS 3.5.10 with DLSSTweaks set to native rendering.

The game runs with FG and HDR on, jumping from 50 to mid 60s at ultra with RT high at 1440p with RTX3060ti.

Then after 2-3 minutes of actually playing it crashes, doesn't matter if HDR is on or off.

Can you check in windows event logs (event viewer under system tab) if it's actually the nvidia driver crashing? because after some time the mod make my nvidia driver crashing and i can see that from the windows log (this happens with Both methods nvngx.dll and DLSSTweaks).

There is marks an error and nvlddmkm as source

Kolcha2009 commented 9 months ago

nvlddmkm

Im having the same issue, after a random time of playing, the game suddenly is crashing and in event logger nvlddmkm error is there

I think I have found a solution for now that works without crashes, at least in my case. I think the problem is the huge 8 GB vram of my 3070. If i set quality and raytracing settings to middle, the vram goes up to max 7,5 GB and it looks that this is stable for now.

That explains why it hasn't crashed to me a single time in hours of gaming, the a 3090ti which I have has a whopping 24 Gb of vram, practically infinite.. Shame on Nvidia who put so less vram on their gpu

alex-enginity commented 9 months ago

The crashes are coming from a very old nvngx_dlss driver provided by default for the game.

  1. Download this: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-dlss-dll/ (Make sure to download v3.5.10)
  2. Drop this file nvngx_dlss.dll into Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Binaries\Win64\ along with the other mod files.
  3. Profit.

PS: Be sure to NEVER enable DLSS sharpen because that will make the game crash instantly and then the only solution to make it work again is to remove the mod and all the files, load the game, disable Sharpen and copy everything again.

This was confirmed by me just 10 minutes ago. Double checked.

I don't think so. Try the updated nvn_dlss driver that I've recommended.

MJ12MJ commented 9 months ago

Already tried with updated DLSS but still crashing after some time. Playing on RTX 3080 in 1440p everything at Ultra, VRAM usage is around 8,5Gb.

This is incorrect, I already have the latest dlss version and crashes still happening after 3-4 minutes

alex-enginity commented 9 months ago

I think I may have found something. The memory consumption increases by 830Mb on the VRAM when Frame Generation is enabled. Which I'm begining to suspect it is related to the buffer that FSR3 needs to construct the frames when Frame Generation is enabled. Which makes perfect sense. If FSR3 were to consume local system RAM instead of VRAM it will have a much higher latency.

Sadly this means that for videocards that have 10 or 12GB the game may be topping the limit available, so I can imagine this could trigger a game crash.

Please try by all means to reduce texture quality, try changing graphic options so as to reduce at least 1 full Gb of RAM before enabling Frame Generation.

Reason why I've never experienced a single crash is that the RTX 3090 Ti has 24GB of RAM.

Here is the evidence, without and with FrameGeneration ON. I've tested it on several games and it's almost always 0.8GB of full VRAM extra use as soon as you enable Frame Generation.

Already tried with updated DLSS but still crashing after some time. Playing on RTX 3080 in 1440p everything at Ultra, VRAM usage is around 8,5Gb.

I'm almost positive then that this is a VRAM limit issue. As stated previously, FSR3 seems to be eating 0.8GB (850 to 900Mb) of VRAM all to itself as soon as you enable Frame Generation.

This is consistent, if you use Rivatuner or Xbox Game Bar to measure VRAM consumption, you will see that it uses that memory when enabled and frees that memory when disabled.

If when enabling Frame Generation, memory exceeds the available, it is feasible that it has no way of dealing with that and could be crashing the game.

Try to lower the graphic detail to restrict memory comsumption, if the memory is below what you have available and the game does not crash again, then we have discovered the issue.

You cannot enable sharpen it seems. For me it crashes instantly after enabling sharpen. The other crashes, when sharpen is always at 0, seems to be coming from a VRAM memory limit. Read my other post.
