My guess is that you do not have a custom anisette server running (or might just forgot to export its url before starting altserver). See the release for further information: https://github.com/NyaMisty/AltServer-Linux/releases/tag/v0.0.5
As a side note, is there any way to use this without having to put my Apple ID password on the command line?
Sure, create a new one and use that one just for AltStore
Thank you; I wasn’t aware of that page.
As for the Apple ID thing, I think I assumed (evidently erroneously) that it needed to be the same Apple ID that the device is registered to.
While we’re talking, would you happen to know where to get the IPA for AltStore? All I see are instructions for installing it using the menu item, which doesn’t exist here. I know there’s a GUI based altserver someone made for Linux which has it, but that one just broke when I tried it.

I don't know if it's been resolved for you, but I get the same error, even while running a custom anisette server.
I ran export ALTSERVER_ANISETTE_SERVER="http://127.0.0.1:6969"
(the docker instance was running, and I was able to get an answer with curl) before running ./AltServer -u "UDID_HERE" -a "EMAIL_HERE" -p "PWD_HERE" AltStore.ipa
Any ideas?
I'm having the same issue. The anisette server is returning a response in curl and the altserver output but I'm still getting the same error. EDIT: tried with a new Apple ID, the issue persists.

Update: I compiled the AltServer-Linux from source. Problem solved.
I can confirm, it works if compiled manually (I followed the approach from the compile notes).
I am getting the -36607 error aswell, even with the server running. I can see the response in the log so i know that part is working. I also get a response when I curl 127.0.0.1:6969. I don’t know what i can share so heres the log with all the random looking data removed:

I’ve installed the altstore app with my windows pc and this is what i get when i try to login on the app with the server daemon running, in the app i get the same 36607 error.

I’ve also tried compiling my own version but it gives the same results. To compile I exactly followed instructions in the note, only thing ive done is adding -j 40 to make to make it go faster. Im running this in a debian 11 lxc on proxmox. Does anyone know what I’m doing wrong and how I can fix it? Thanks in advance
@koevoet1221 Were you able to fix it?
Had to login with the apple id on my ipad to fix that error. Whole load of errors after that, finally got it working but only usb and unreliably, sometimes it’d take 3 reboots. Then i just created a windows vm which boots at 4:50 and shutdown at 5:10 and setup a shortcut to refresh at 5:00. I did use a modified windows iso called GGOS

Looks like I'll do the same. Thank you for the detailed reply, I appreciate it :)
Update: Logging in in the appstore on my iPad and installing an app from there solved the issue! I downloaded the latest version from here: https://github.com/NyaMisty/AltServer-Linux/actions/runs/2392885622 (But I had to run it as sudo, else it would give some error about json) And used https://github.com/Dadoum/Provision for the alternative anisette server (had to build it myself) Thank you again !

According to the apps database https://cdn.altstore.io/file/altstore/apps.json, the current release is downloadable at https://cdn.altstore.io/file/altstore/apps/altstore/1_5_1.ipa This should probably be mentioned somewhere in the readme.
I've also been stuck on this for a few days, and I've gotten my Apple ID locked for like the 4th time today...

I'm trying to install YouTube++. I ran AltServer with the parameters it asked for in the help prompt, and it says "Installing app..." and prints a bunch of info, ending with an error message. I won't post the full output because I don't know how much of it is privacy-sensitive, but this is the end of it:
