brettazar commented 6 years ago

I've tranfered about 6k from poloniex usdt account to coinbase usd wallet aND now learned that money is gone. I found the transaction in tether but have no clue how to access it or to reverse the transaction back to poloniex. This is my savings... I'm dead without it. Please please please help

dexX7 commented 6 years ago

Hi @brettazar,

unfortunately there is nothing we can do without the cooperation of Coinbase.

Please reach out to the Coinbase support, because there is a significant number of similar cases, but so far Coinbase hasn't done anything in this regard.

atalpur commented 6 years ago

did u get this resolved by any chance? iam in similiar situation. :(

brettazar commented 6 years ago

Negative. Nothing from coinbase yet.

atalpur commented 6 years ago

ok plz update here if u have any. i will do same!

dexX7 commented 6 years ago

Please. please contact Coinbase and say how dissatisfied you are. There are tens of thousands of USDT stuck in Coinbase and so far they didn't help to retrieve any of them.

brettazar commented 6 years ago

I did reach out to coinbase. Still no response unfortunately.

We have an internal list with similar cases. If at some point Coinbase decides to help, we can reach out to the users. If you want, I can add you to the list. Please post the transaction hash and a way to contact you.

Unfortunately it's not enough, if you move the bitcoins. You need to create a special transaction that also moves the tokens. We can handcraft one, but Coinbase ultimately needs to sign it.

Hi devX7

Does this mean that omni is working on features to retrieve the tokens stuck at incompatible exchanges like coinbase, like ours?

https://blog.omni.foundation/2017/11/21/state-of-the-layer-all-hands-nov-21-2017/

Yes - I am still keeping my hopes up.

Thanks, Asif

@tjnunne5: if you have a direct contact and they really consider helping, please feel free to direct them to us.

We can craft and provide them with raw transactions to retrieve the tokens and all they need to do would be to sign them.

brettazar commented 6 years ago

Wait you can retrieve it now??? Please help!! What do I need to do

dexX7 commented 6 years ago

@brettazar: it depends.

We can guide the process, if the current holder of the tokens is willing to sign raw transactions. This isn't the case with Coinbase or GDAX though, because they are not willing to cooperate.

brettazar commented 6 years ago

Well no one is technically holding it. It here ... take a look. Where would you say this is. https://omniexplorer.info/lookupadd.aspx?address=1Fzvoo6tQcZLWX2GCaHYmgUL4U9paCy9U5

Hi @dexX7, could you add me to your list of people who have been boned out of thousands due to this incompatibility? I've reached out to Coinbase, Binance and Tether for help, and none of them seem capable of doing anything about the situation, despite a lot of anecdotes online about possible solutions when they cooperate!

dexX7 commented 5 years ago

Hey @ebagslolz, I do not believe there was one outcome where Coinbase actually cooperated. We've never heard of a single success story in this context. :(

This just happened to me transferring $7506 USDT to Coinbase. The money is stuck and Coinbase refusing to help. DexX7 can you add me to the list? Also, are you able to provide me the letter coinbase would have to sign in order to release the funds? I have had timely response from their support so maybe if they don't have to do a lot of work I can convince them. Thank you so much, hope to hear from you. @dexX7 I'm hoping you see my post. Thanks again! @brettazar I'm so sorry to hear you are in a similar situation.

dexX7 commented 5 years ago

Hey @Danster123,

that's very unfortunate. If they cooperate and agree to sign a raw transaction to send the USDT somewhere else, we could access the funds. But they've never done that.

powerlinep commented 5 years ago

New to this. Sent 300 USDT from bianance to USDC on Coinbase. Graphics look similar and transaction went through no problem. See in explorer. Coinbase A USA company under eye of SEC and yet copping my cash and refusing to return it. How is this legal?

dexX7 commented 5 years ago

I agree @powerlinep, it's awful! There are literally tens of thousands of USDT stuck in Coinbase.

mrsnappy51 commented 5 years ago

I had 36 btc on poloniex and wanted to quickly cash out and send it back to coinbase. At the time it was worth just over 20k. Sent it to coinbase not realizing usdt was not compatible with a usd wallet. Dumb mistake but I was fairly new to trading at that point. I tried damn hard to get them to take action. Spoke with lawyers, consumer advocacy groups, even tried to contact news agencies to get them to run the story. Every option I could think of, I tried. In the end it was all for nothing and it's been stuck in limbo over 2 years. It's been suggested that coinbase har access to these funds and essentially steals them anytime some poor rube makes this common mistake. The 20 grand is bad enough but what it represents was so much bigger as 36 bitcoin was was 3/4 of a million dollars at one point. I also held a bunch of monero, ethereum, and other coins that I was forced to liquidate in order to survive. All those coins ended up being worth 100's of thousands of dollars. So a seemingly innocuous mistake ended up literally costing me a small fortune. If enough people could come together and put pressure on coinbase I believe something could be done but you would need the backing of a politician or a major public outcry to shame coinbase.

powerlinep commented 5 years ago

Wow I have read through all of these. So sad. I wish I ever owned 36 bitcoin. Life is a financial struggle as a single parent. I will do my best to draw attention to this. If we win maybe some of you will remember me. At least in the case of my money or in the ones listing transaction id’s I can see the money is there. I also think Dex needs to reopen this case. We need everyone onboard if we are to recover these funds. I question why tether can not burn our tether and replace it? If we know the tether transaction why can’t that cash be removed from service like tether does with other money? If the current custodian makes no claim to it as stated than it would seem all parties involved are in agreement. Is it the tech? I know it isn’t. Let’s rethink this folks.

mrsnappy51 commented 5 years ago

I was able to track the transaction and I could see it. I just had no way to retrieve it.

powerlinep commented 5 years ago

It is unfair that they won’t assist. Bianance and tether both offered to help me but Coinbase won’t. It’s going to end up being a headache for them when regulators start looking. I only have 300 stuck but some have several thousand. One would think adding tether would be the smartest thing but to this Point they are making so much money they don’t care about us :(((

Please add me to the list of people screwed by coinbase. My info below. Email is jfineman1@yahoo.com Screwed out of $7,000 when sending USDT from Binance to BTC Coinbase accidentally. This should be fixable even if it takes them time and effort. They should charge for it. It shouldn’t let the transaction process in the first place. Ive spoken to a couple lawyers about it but they didn't want to take the case. But the number of people this has happened to is now overwhelming. I think that if a large number of people came at them and the case got significant attention they would have to do something about it as there is undoubtedly hundreds of thousands of dollars stuck in their website.

The question I have is, could they even do something about it if they wanted to? The customer support acts like it’s gone and they have no control of where it went. I’ve heard others say online that if we had access to our private keys we could recover the USDT. This is considered a privacy m/security risk per coinbase so thy will not release that data. Does coinbase have the funds or are the funds just lost? They went somewhere? This link below says the funds are owned by the address they were sent to which happens to be a bitcoin address. It seems if we had access to our private keys we could creat an Omni wallet and transfer them. I’m not a technical genius but it sounds possible.

The next thing to do with everyone is file a petition and include dollar amounts. Maybe if the lawyers saw the dollar amounts they may get interested if they see what the potential win would look like. They may just realize it’s a brick wall based on coinbase terms and conditions. If nothing else if we all make noise on Twitter and social media it may make a difference.
