SNAP Package of "native" LiveODM programs #8

This idea came from a Linux expert whom I was discussing my trials/tribulations on updating LiveODM beyond 16.04.

Their idea was that a SNAP package would be a clean way to avoid dependency issues for a Linux install, without some of the vagaries of a Docker image.

Thoughts?

Would certainly be an interesting option to explore. Would you be interested in contributing/maintaining it?

Information gathering only at this stage, sadly.

I'll take a look if I give up on getting LiveODM past 16.04

In talking with @Saijin-Naib about packaging ODM I think snaps might be able to help.

I am not familiar with ODM but it sounds like you have some dependency and packaging issues.

Snaps are Linux application packages with all the dependencies built-in and strictly confined.

You can then install snaps on over 40+ distros.

You may be able take your existing scripts, wrap them in some YAML, and go.

We have tons of great documentation on how to do it and if there is interest we can help you through that process.

Then you can get listed in the Snapcraft Store.
