Hi @Openscapes/2021-noaa-nmfs-team ,

Thanks for a great first session last Friday. Our team commented how engaged everyone was, and how the ideas of shared, streamlined, and open resonated with so many, building from the work you're already doing. Below is a light digest of Call 1, including a reminder for your Seaside Chat, instructions for 1:1 team meetings with Eli, and additional Co-Working times before our Call 2 on Friday, October 1st. Looking forward to seeing you then!

Have a good week,

Eli, Corey, and Julie

Digest: Cohort Call 1 [ 2021-noaa-nmfs ]

Resources and communication:

Goals: We started working towards a common understanding of the Openscapes mindset and what your pathway forward looks like for your team.

Task for next time: Have a Seaside Chat with your research group to explore/practice GitHub.

  1. Attend the GitHub Clinic or review the recording (posted in our Cohort Folder Wednesday midday) and/or the clinic notes in your Seaside Chat discuss how you might use GitHub as a team
  2. Seaside Chat. Talk with your cohort team about how you want to do this. You can do this during a 1:1 with Eli if you want or separately. It doesn't have to be video either. Use whatever communication works.
    • Start your Pathway: Focus on where you are Now (your trailhead). Note, teams can approach this differently. Maybe the team has one pathway or multiple (for subteams).
    • Pathways Sheet (File > Make a copy)
    • After discussing things, post a new issue to the cohort repo that summarizes your Seaside chat. You will find a template with some instructions in the cohort repo issues. This is a chance to keep practicing with Issues – and there are ways for us to assist if you need more help – see next:
  3. (Optional) Sign up for a 1:1 team meeting with Eli. Note: just one person per team makes an appointment, and then once confirmed on their Google Calendar they can invite other team members to join.
  4. (Optional) Co-working: Tuesday, Sept 28, 12pm PT. This is a time to come work on your own things, but also be able to talk things through and screenshare to get help from others. Check your emails for Calendar Invites with Zoom links.
