We discussed our goals for the short term (during this Openscapes workshop) and long term (generally, in the future, for our group).
Present

And @sean-rohan-NOAA was out sick but saw our notes and added material!
GitHub
How you might use GitHub as a team?
In general: We would like to use GitHub to centralize and standardize the creation of data products, which is one of our primary duties as a survey team.
Or how do you already use it? If you already use it, how would you like to use it differently or better?
Currently we use GitHub primarily on an individual- or small team basis. First authors/project leads maintain their own GitHub repos. Some team members don't use GitHub at all, and we are still discussing ways that we can get them onboard to the extent that they can contribute to projects, etc.
What are some things that need to happen to use it differently or better?
Project organization would be really helpful for everyone in the team. Have a centralized place to store and assign data requests and their fulfillment would be really great and save time. Having robust, centralized code for fulfilling data requests is also something we'd like to set up.
Cohort team plan
What is your cohort team's goal for the 2021 NMFS Openscapes cohort? This is totally up to you. You can have multiple goals or just one. It can be concrete or loose.
Do you have a particular goal or task?
We would like to create one organization for GAP Survey Products and one for Research Projects. We will focus on the GAP Survey Products org during this cohort. This will include:
Set up repos for our primary data products
Biomass/abundance estimates
Composition estimates
Age composition
Age-length keys
Length composition
Length frequencies
Length-weight relationships
Model-based estimates of the above
Items above, plus distribution indicators for Ecosystem and Socioeconomic Profiles
Ecosystem indicators (e.g., Cold Pool Index)
Cold pool index
Other temperature data products (mean temperature for YFS, etc.)
Morphometric condition indicator for ESRs & ESPs
Environmental data products
General utility functions
Mapping tool
Set up Project Boards for individual repos
Set up a Project Board for the organization as a whole
Do you mainly want to discuss issues to gain more clarity to define future goals by discussing workflow?
We will need to discuss organization and workflow more to figure out the best way to set up our organization. We also need to check with our larger team at AFSC and see what makes sense to them, and make sure the final structure reflects their needs as well. We also discussed coming up with a general pathway for people to start a repo within the organization, using some best practices that @CaitlinAkselrud-NOAA et al developed earlier to set some standards for repos (e.g., make sure it has a README file).
Do you mainly want to learn about the Openscapes mindset and how other groups are applying it?
We didn't discuss this but may want to learn more later.
Pathways
We started our Pathways form and are currently discussing online.
