Currently have this in various places, creating potential for skipping or double transforming.

Some individual functions have log Y/N option
Some of the wrapper functions have log Y/N option or hardwired log
have a smoothing fn `smoothSeries()', but not sure whether smoothing is ever used in COSEWIC assessments.
default settings should be?
