Just wanted to move the feedback convo from Slack into a Github issue.

Some conversation points so far:

Include first name, pronouns, location, age(?)
In general, what's the relationship with the Team page (see https://github.com/PostHog/posthog.com/issues/485)? If too much team info is in both places, it could start to be repetitive or information overload? I'm wary of this because the amount of text + docs in general is quite high. That's a good thing for clarity long-term, but for new prospects just wanting to get a cursory glimpse of the company it might be ideal to streamline the message so we can really hone in on the positive takeaways we need to highlight. This might be a question less about this fun lil feature and more about the Careers page overall. Something I was thinking about was if job descriptions should/could be separated into separate pages for easier share-ability?
Do we want to format with or without images/illustrations of people, with or without slider, etc.

I could see us doing something like:

Meet the Team type horizontal strip on the careers page that links to team page where the bios are stored. This is where names, pronouns, locations could go as it's "profile" type info. I'm on the fence about ages being inclusive or not.
Quotes but not descriptions about people on the careers page - relating to why the chose to work here rather than people talking about themselves. These could make a smaller deal of the person's name than the current suggestion which has the name as a larger title than the quote, it's more about what they're saying.

Since age is a protected class (US law is for those above 40), I think mentioning it as a part of highlighted team member facts could actually be a little problematic. Because all the protected classes are illegal to ask about or really even make comments adjacent-to in interviews, I think maybe it's best to avoid broaching the topic here. (Especially since PostHog's age range is quite good, but perhaps not so diverse if you're using the age-40 legal cutoff)

Like the ideas for a "meet the team" horizontal strip and for quotes particularly about "why here" (perhaps in a carousel/slider setup?)

I suggest some changes!

1.

I vote we remove the left side nav bar- it seems pointless and is using up vital space .

Obviously having two PostHog logos is a bit over kill here

The right hand nav bar also seems a little strange on a page like this - I vote we give it the chop chop 🌲

This may be a font issue but I think we should make the Gosha Sans Regular instead of Bold - it feels too shouty

5.

I think I discussed with someone earlier this month, that we were going to put the 'open roles' at the top of the page for ease of access?

6.

If we are keeping all the current online content on the new redesign, I vote we reorganise the order of this info!

Careers Redesign

So I have started with the Open roles at the top with subtle raised squares letting the viewer click these first. It's minimal but focuses the eye strictly on the open roles currently which I think is key here.

After this we are introduced to who we are and why we are here- important but secondary information to the main point of this page - the open roles.

I have ended it with some comments from some of our employees just to add a human touch - a method many other companies use on their careers pages!

What does everyone think ?

Secondary Open Role Page

For these pages I have created a template/few blocks to help describe what we are looking for in each job opportunity. So it should be pretty easy to build up job pages if and when we need them.

There's a lot of whitespace in this one which i'm not sure helps improve readability. I'd say we need a larger text block for the main job description, then just a section for how to apply & benefits

I also had the idea of introducing bullet points as pixels - the big numbers are sometimes too much - I think this also ties in the 8-bit style in a very subtle but cool way

(I realise that the bullet points need to be made all one colour not two but that is just a mistake I didn't see until now)

Overall - I like this and think it's a massive step up from our current pages. I think the design for the careers page is really cool and stands out against a sea of generally tedious careers pages that are out there.

I've left comments on each section below - I'm not sure if it's helpful to have the text feedback in here now or just edit it once the page is up, but I've recorded it here anyway:

Careers page

Design feedback

I'd put our open roles at the bottom of the careers page - you'd usually expect to get all the info about a company first, and then the roles at the bottom. I would also want to encourage people to learn more about us before applying. Purely subjective, but I think the shadows are a little bit too aggressive on those.
I don't think the blue hedgehog diagram next to 'Our Culture' really works with the small icons underneath - I'd get rid of it entirely as it doesn't seem necessary/consistent with the other sections.
The line between 'Our Culture' and then 'All Remote' etc - presumably that should actually come after 'Why we're here' to break it up from the section above? Otherwise it splits a section in half.
The 'Diversity' icon doesn't work for me - Norway is a predominantly white, European country. I'm not sure if a specific flag is the way to go to show diversity, vs. something else?
The 'All Remote' icon being also feels inconsistent in style in its semi-3Dness.
'Written Communication' is missing from the current careers page as a value.
Under the benefits, I think we should put in 'Top of market salary' (with a link to the compensation page), put that as the first item, and delete 'Free books'. This applies to the individual role pages as well.
Generally, the inconsistency in the width of each section is throwing me off a bit - it would be a bit less jarring if they were more uniform.
The logos next to 'Our Backers' look a bit sparse compared to the rest of the page - maybe a coloured background would help?

Text feedback

I'd change 'Open Roles at PostHog' to 'Working at PostHog', because the page is more general than just roles
All the hyperlinks are missing - I assume they'll be in the final version?
Delete 'A few things have emerged as Key' under 'Culture'
Under 'A Fair Hiring Process', I'd change to '...we'll hire you as a contractor for a PostHog SuperDay to do some work with us.' with link to that page.
Delete all full stops under the 'Benefits' text. I don't think 'serious perks' needs to be in bold either.

Individual jobs page

Design feedback

I find this new design a bit more confusing than our existing pages in some ways - I think we have to be really careful on individual job specs to be super clear and structured in how we present, otherwise we'll lose candidates if they can't easily parse the information.
I think that (in addition to Benefits at the bottom), the 'Sold? Apply now' and 'Want to learn more about us first?' sections will be constants in all roles, but otherwise we do pretty heavily customise each spec depending on the target applicant so would want to maintain the ability to do that.
If we have 'Want to learn more about us first' consistent in all pages, then the 'Find out more about Posthog's culture' section can go.

Yeah I assumed that the hyperlinks will be added in when put into production, I can easily add in blue text where needed if that helps
