Outline

After some discussion and some worse ideas from me, I think @lottiecoxon knocked it out of the park by suggesting we replace the current product images on the pricing page which images of physical products. Biasing for actions and suggesting we move forward with this!

Each product would need to have a mock-up product, plus maybe a little caption that goes along with it as the current CD image does. Suggestions...

Tool Pictured product Caption
Product Analytics Microscope Microscope not actually provided, as events are not physically visible.
Web analytics Tally counter clicker Clicking the tally counter sadly doesn't increase actual site visits.
Session replay Camcorder / VHS Provided on a bring-your-own-popcorn basis.
Feature flags Light switches Useful for switching between light and dark mode.
A/B testing Chemistry set Goggles not included.
Surveys Home phone Display model can only make calls to 1-800-HEDGEHOG.
Data Warehouse Forklift truck User must pay for their own forklift safety training.
Hedgehog mode Tamagotchi Yes, PostHog really includes a virtual hedgehog pet. You're welcome.

But am sure better ideas will emerge from others, again.

Deadline & Priority

When do you need it? How important is it?

Devil's advocate... I really like that there are product screenshots on our pricing page. They aren't great screenshots, but that's a solvable problem, surely?

Could we make them expandable – i.e. clicking on them opens a high-res version like it would on a shopping website?

I like these ideas and I don't think it's an either or situation, but I think we should find a way to makes the screenshots better, not eliminate them entirely.

We discussed that on the linked thread. The problem is that, even when we use clear screenshots, they aren't really adding anything and are too small to be legible. We could make them bigger, but then I'd say it's becoming a distraction and isn't really needed anyway.

If we're looking for a more direct solution that's less funny, I'd fall back to my previous suggestion of having small text images which suggest the use-cases. At the end of the day the screenshots aren't really going to give clear legible information, and if that's what we think needs to happen then this is IMHO the best solution.

Cool. I don't feel strongly enough to dig in on this. Just my 2cents.

Random thought... could we (at some point) make one of the "screenshots" a sizzle reel / demo type video? Would fit with the Amazon-style retail look.

Edit: Will make a separate issue about that idea.

I don't love the idea of the physical object images 🙈 I think because on this page the goal is to reinforce "yes, this is what I am looking for," and the physical images have the potential to confuse just enough that the reinforcement is weak.

I do like the screenshot images, though I think the current ones aren't great. I think they should be expandable on click or hover. Or you idea @joethreepwood

Ultimately a @corywatilo and @lottiecoxon decision obvs. TBH, I'd like to get these images for use in email comms anyway.

Still a @corywatilo and, since there's no decision...
