Off-topic Search Result for DVD storage temperature #197

Problem: Using Presearch on Brave browser, I did a search for DVD storage temperature. The first search result is an off-topic graphic of the current weather and 7-day forecast for Macapul (Storage), Sinaloa, Мексика. The other search results are relevant to storage temperatures for CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray optical discs.

To reproduce the behavior: use Presearch on the Brave browser and search for DVD storage temperature. The first search result is off-topic with a weather forecast from Macapul, Mexico (Cyrillic alphabet Мексика).

Expected behavior: correct search result should be relevant to the recommended storage temperature range for a DVD optical disc, not a weather forecast.

System: HP ProBook 650 G1 notebook PC, Intel i5, 16 GB RAM, Samsung Pro SSD Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, latest version, monthly update on Patch Tuesday, March 14 Brave browser, 64-bit, version 1.19.132

Comment: I use Presearch and Brave browser or Firefox daily, rather than Google Search and Chrome browser. I am a small business owner, not a developer. Retired computer design engineer. My location is Colorado. IP address is Colorado. VPN is off.

Hi Jerry,

I was able to reproduce your problem, and it appears that searching "DVD storage temperature" brings up the weather app on every browser/device which I have tested it on. The weather app is being triggered due to the word temperature, making the app translate storage looking for a location.
The simplest method to prevent this situation is to remove the word "Temperature" from triggering the weather app.
Another method that I am thinking of is to add a default language option to user settings, that way the system will know if it should or should not automatically translate the words in the search query looking for locations.

Below the weather widget the actual results are on point though and are about DVD storage temperatures. If you also have a search stake then the PresearchAI will show you info you were originally looking for right away.

If you replace the word temperature with just temp, then the weather app is not triggered: image

Hi Joshua, Thanks for looking into this issue. Not a critical or high priority issue, just an unexpected weather app result. Maybe the weather app should use a town atlas or postal code lookup table as a location qualifier and remain off if there is no real place location match.

I did a search for the town of Storage and only got a few hits for storage rental unit businesses, such as Storage Town or Storage City.

I don't have a search stake, currently about 415 PRE from normal search usage and some bonuses. I avoid using Google wherever  I can.

This seems to be tied into the weather app being called when it translate storage into other languages making it think it might be a town. One method I am thinking to solve this is to add a default language option in your user settings, that way the system will know if it should or should not automatically translate the words looking for places and locations.
