@Katiegriggs24 We need to figure this out. I think I can figure out how to do the assignment but I don't know how to break it up between the two of us. @nroyce @Katiegriggs24 one place you can each start on your own is the final part of the assignment (number 5 under requirements) where you each will individually report on two TEI elements and the constraints the project has made on those elements. Then @nroyce perhaps identify the parts of the assignment you are most comfortable with completing or handing off to @Katiegriggs24 either uploading/downloading from GitHub (which means you would be the point person for doing numbers 1,2, and possibly 3) or writing a list in markdown on the issues board (in which case you should take number 4). I imagined in a 2 person group one person would do steps 1 & 2 and the other person would do step 4 and then the team would work together on step 3 (which is perhaps the more jarring/confusing step). Then step 5 is meant to be the part of the exercise that can be completed by each team member individually.

  1. Two different elements that the Danish letter had was <p> and <resp> . The MIW project used the element <p> to make further divisions of the text specifying information about the text. This meant that the project used <p> in different ways like <p>Information about the source</p> or <p>Paragraph Information/<p>.The element <resp> defines the task completed, update,when available, and the latest update. The project did this by adding the attributes and values to further constrain this element making it look like <resp>Encoding updated on <date when="yyyy-mm-dd">day month year</date>`

  1. After completing steps one and two, for number three we couldn't find any errors in our document. We also did't make any changes to the document to correct any errors.

  1. The project uses <div>, which is used to identify textual subdivisions in the un-numbered style. This key attribute-value contains unique attribute-values such as p for paragraphs.

The project also uses <fileDesc> as a key attribute-value which contains unique attribute values within it such as <titleStmt>, <publicationStmt>, and <sourceDesc> which all provide information about the author, translation, publication, etc about the book.

@nroyce and @Katiegriggs24 😆 I am an idiot sometimes. Well done figuring out your document had no schema errors. 💛 Also, well done completing the TEI XML Exercise! :tada:

For the next assignment, your team will need to reference the latest file added to the Danish Letter 19310122 Archival Materials Folder 📂 -- a screenshot of the TEI header information provided by the project manager, Emily Datskou. As a team, you will work together to create a <teiHeader> element for Danish Letter 19310122 using the information provided by Emily, the existing XML encoding, photograph(s) of the letter (a.k.a the facsimile images), and the translation/transcription documents.

Be sure to reference the TEI Header Exercise in order to let each other, @ProfPLC, and I know what tasks you each are comfortable with completing by Tuesday (2/26) 📆. Please remember the main goals in all of our assignments are team communication 💬 and collaboration 👐.

  1. One TEI element that isn't being use in the Danish letter 15 is <appInfo>. This element records the information about an application which has edited the TEI file. One reason that this element isn't being used is because for this project we don't have an application that edits the files. All of the edits being made are from people who edit the files.

@Katiegriggs24 @nroyce There is still quite a bit left to do in order to get full credit for this assignment. Please be sure to upload your completed TEI Header .xml file to your team's folder. Also, @nroyce you still need to respond to @Katiegriggs24's statement above about the <appInfo> element and make a statement about a different tei header element not used in our template so @Katiegriggs24 can respond before class.

I did upload the TEI header XML file. Are you not able to see it? I will respond to @katiegriggs24 in just a couple mins. I wasn’t aware I had to respond to that one so thank you for pointing that out @rjp43.

@nroyce my apologies I see your file now. I was looking for the file to be named according to what was listed in the assignment. No big deal it is not. A quick note looking at the file -- you don't want any of the information you and @Katiegriggs24 inputted to be in XML comments. I see your <sourceDesc> text is still commented out. See you both in class.

@Katiegriggs24 I think <appInfo> could be useful if someone needed to know what software we were using. Good call! I also think we could have used <encodingDesc> to encompass that and include other important information in the TEI Header. Maybe the encoders could be placed in this element?

@nroyce we actually will end up using the <encodingDesc> so I am happy you found your way to that element. We will be using it to give a statement regarding the process of encoding instead of a list of the actual encoders since they are represented in the <respStmt> elements.

@RJP43 I originally had the <sourceDesc> as a comment because of the nature of the information put in there. It seemed more of a comment than a fact/tag/title, etc. I have corrected that now. Thank you.

@nroyce using the <encodingDesc> tag would be really beneficial for this project because of the different relationships with the archive/ narrative and the different archival materials that we are using

I don't recall if I noted this anywhere on Tuesday, but I did not insert a title for the letter because @Katiegriggs24 and I were unable to find one in the screenshot, transcript, or photos of the letters.
