Hello, I am fairly new to coding (this is legit my third ever coding project, my first was homebrew then modding my favorite game) so I’m sure I’m not understanding some things. My pc (windows 11) is not allowing me to open snickerstream. I have the x64.zip downloaded, I’m pretty sure I was able to unzip the file by extracting and putting them somewhere else in my computer. I do have a security app installed and it’s saying that snickerstream is a threat and deleting the file. I have tried to turn off the firewall, and now the needed file is no longer showing up, just a text document and an MD file called READ ME. All I’ve wanted to do was project my N3DS onto my computer to have my modded game on a bigger screen haha

My process is this:

download zip file -> go the downloads -> double click and click extract all -> click browse -> click folder Windows (C:) then select folder -> click extract -> screen saying “1 interrupted action” with “Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error” -> check off “do this for all current items” and click try again -> error pops back up -> clicks skip-> replace files in the destination -> pop up “Destination Folder Access Denied” -> check “do this for all current items” -> click continue (has a blue and yellow shield next to it) -> loading completes, only the text document and MD file are shown

i am definitely doing smth wrong, and I would love some help. If you would like pictures of what’s going on, I could give you my discord or if the comments here allow pictures I shall put them here. Any help is much appreciated, thank you! Sorry for the long post

As it was, before I started meddling with my security app, the system WAS showing up in downloads and on that folder, just was getting erased by the app when I tried to open it

beebeewoods commented 7 months ago

Okay! So i firgured out the security system with the help of my sister who was in cyber security for a while, and she came to the conclusion that my computer is just not accepting the file. It is showing up as an application now, it’s just not opening. We shut down all the firewalls and shields, we even tried to run it on administrator. Her theory is that since it’s 2018 technology it might just not run on 2024 technology, and told me to leave the rest to you guys if you have any answers lol

i just wanna be able to play my 3ds games on a bigger screen

Oh! I double clicked on the application, and a pop up appeared. “This application may depend on other compressed files in this folder. For the application to run properly, it is recommended that you first extract all files.” I clicked on run and it said destination file could not be created. I double clicked it again, same pop up, but clicked extract all, put it in a folder, and clicked it again with nothing happening.

I haven't had any issues with Snickerstream being detected by Windows as malware, but I also use Windows 10 not 11. I'm going to suggest a couple options:

  1. Compile Snickerstream with a newer AutoIt version. A semi-major update to AutoIt was released in 2022, someone should probably recompile Snickerstream with that in case that fixes any major issues. It shouldn't be the hardest project ever but probably more involved than you want to get.
  2. Use a different program. This will depend on your 3DS type (Old/New) and mod (NTR or HzMod): 2a. If you're using HzMod (which you would do if you have an Old 3DS), my project Chokistream is pretty much the only alternative. I'm biased, but I happen to think that it's better than Snickerstream in most ways, as it was created largely to fix some issues my friends and I had with Snickerstream. You might also consider using ChirunoMod for generally improved stability over HzMod. 2b. If you have a New 3DS, you should ideally be using NTR, and probably NTR-HR for the best framerates. There's a greater selection of NTR viewers out there. Chokistream is a solid choice, but kit-kat-slim is quite popular as well and has some nice features that Chokistream doesn't, such as input redirection (being able to control your 3DS with your keyboard). If you're interested in input redirection, Twix is also worth a look.

hmm, okay. I have a new 3DS, and i checked out the options given. kit-kat-slim says it can't show files that are that big right now, and I can't find anything on how to download it. The version of twix I need (windows) says the file is no longer available. I tried following the wiki for the NTR-HR and again, snickerstream is not opening even with all the firewalls taken down, and I don't know how to convert it into an .exe file because it is not that. All that it is listed as is "Snickerstream_x64" with a type of "Application". It is the latest version of it. I'm not much of a coder as it is my third ever project, so I have no idea what an AutoIt is. I am checking out Chokistream, and have downloaded the java, my only issue so far is what files do I download to launch choki? The github and settings files?

@beebeewoods For Chokistream, download the jar from the Releases page. For Twix, that's really annoying that the download is down, it was working just a month or so ago. I've attached a copy that I saved though: TwixWin32.zip For Snickerstream, AutoIt is the programming language that it's written in. It's kinda a pain to work with so I wouldn't really recommend working with it if you don't have programming experience. I don't know why you don't think it's not an exe though? If you downloaded the release there's an exe in that zip folder. If you weren't running that then I would say give that a shot, I'm not sure what you were trying to run. I have no idea what your issue with kit-kat-slim is, sorry.

Okay, I'll try to go with chokistream from what I can do. i'll come back here if I have another issue, which I hope I won't haha. And I have snickerstream in my computer files, this is all that is showing up. Screenshot 2024-02-22 164132

Eiim commented 7 months ago

That would appear to be the exe file, you may have file name extensions disabled in Windows File Explorer.

beebeewoods commented 7 months ago

Ahhh, okay, more than likely then.

beebeewoods commented 7 months ago

Alright, I've downloaded chokistream, set up the IP and have the NTR amd FBI downloaded on my 3DS already because of a previous mod to a game and I have java downloaded too. Chokistream is giving me this message whenever I click connect tho? I am so so sorry Screenshot 2024-02-22 165505

Eiim commented 7 months ago

No worries. That shouldn't be hard to fix, just make sure you don't have any other 3DS streaming programs running at the same time. Worst case you might need to restart your computer. If that doesn't fix it open an issue over on the Chokistream repository and we can look at it more closely there.

Okay, thank you!
