This is intended behaviour! Email addresses are considered 'Sensitive Information' and are not supported in social links. They can instead be added to the 'Private Contact Links' section, which doesn't currently show for personas (which is a bug)
Should it be intended behaviour? If you explicitly add your email to the public contact info area, I think the expectation would be that the public can see that.
We had an internal discussion and decided to prevent emails from being publicly exposed when users add it to their public social links. So the existing behaviour will not be changed.
The reasoning essentially boils down to we're worried that teenagers will supply every field possible with their details. Then suddenly a creep starts emailing them.
We recognize that this can impact artists who primarily deal via email. If artists wish to make their email public for business inquiries, then they may add their email to Profile Information.
Emails are still visible in Private Contact Links which require contact access to be granted by the user first.
To prevent false bug reports about this, we added a warning:

The link is saved in settings (refreshing still shows it) but it's not shown on profiles.
