UI: put search-based access of data upfront on splash page, as alternative to diving into a genome #146

What do you think about clicking the Chlamydia root node (top of tree) to bring you directly to advanced search? Or it could direct you to a browsing page (similar to the other genomes) which lists all genes across all 4 genomes (as opposed to the strain specific genes)?

That's a possibility. My main reservation is that I don't think that would be inherently obvious (to me). The simplest solution may be to modify the search bar on the splash page, to make it a little more prominent, or inform the users (beyond the tutorial) that they can use that to query genes based on neat criteria.

But I do like the option of clicking on the Chlamydia top node to get a pan-genome browsing page. No reason you can't entertain all options to capture different ways users might think or approach the site.

Moved the search bar above the nagivation tree, and turned it into an advanced search bar. Also modified the tutorial on the front page to explain the two different ways to use the website.
