You can teach computer programming...for free! Quickly search hundreds of computer science lessons plans; find the perfect fit for every type of learner.

About this site

These days, it seems like everyone is learning to code!

Computer programming is a key skill for the 21st Century. And that’s why teachers around the world are learning how to code with their students.

We've organized these CS lessons to meet the needs of diverse K-12 classroom learners. Whether you're a newbie teacher, a seasoned hack, or a curious student, you can learn to code with the free lessons on this site.

The CS lesson finder will help you to quickly sort hundreds of free computer programming lessons. You can even email yourself a list of your favorites.

Coding takes teamwork, imagination, and critical thinking...but it doesn't have to take expensive tech. In fact, many of the lessons in this database require no technology at all!

With these CS lessons, you can teach key concepts in the CCSS Math and Next Generation Science standards. But coding isn't just for math and science! These CS lessons can also reinforce topics like visual art, character design, making models, and digital citizenship.

By starting with the basics, you can teach yourself--and your classroom--to code!

Should this go in /app/views/static_pages/about.html.haml ?

andyras commented 7 years ago

@morrme yes, that would be the place.

morrme commented 7 years ago

What if the first phrase was "Learn or teach" instead of "You"? It kinda fits with the rest of the text. I have no problem putting this in as is, either way

morrme commented 7 years ago

I'm guessing the Chicago Hack Night text should also be a link to the CHN site

andyras commented 7 years ago

@morrme I think those are both good suggestions to work in.

@andyras I am gearing up to submit the PR but wanted to double check: Are there any parts of the current "about" page that you'd like to keep? For example, the text ends with a paragraph about the team, would you like to maintain the list of contributors underneath that?

EveTulbert commented 7 years ago

Hi! I think it would be great to keep the list of contributors. Also, the text needs another pass--there were some comments (i.e. Regarding diverse learners) that I didn't fix yet. I'll take a look at it in the morning.

Okay! I made a few tweaks, so I think we're good to go @morrme...unless @andyras has other changes?
