Doom's scale makes no damn sense #21

Let's suppose that the Doomguy is 6 feet tall. His sprite is 51 pixels tall. Through some magic, we get that:

a map unit is 254/85 (2.988235294117647) cm across
a meter in doom is 4250/127 (33.46456692913386) du

But this means that the Doomguy can reach 51mph with SR50, at speeds that look absolutely nothing like 51mph. Also, Doomguy's sprite is pretty stocky - cropping out Doomguy's gun and arms gets us a size of 23x51 pixels. Even accounting for the difference of pixel heights, that still makes Doomguy two feet wide if he's 6 feet tall. Now I know he's super muscly and shit, but isn't that still a bit much?

Anyway, a meter being 33.5 du feels odd. I dunno.

Okay so after comparing it with me (I'm slightly over a foot wide), it's more believable, but still feels weird. 50mph does not feel like Doomguy's SR50 speed at all.
