There are no recipes for the Flint & Steels right? (mc 1.14.4) Whats the idea behind Flint O' Dire and the West, East, North Flint & Steels? What material are they mad of? And what about South?

Hi TheUntamed,

Thank you for your question. I apologise for the prolonged response due to studies but I'd like to take the time to answer these questions in hand.

BFS is a mod that implements new types of flint and steel into the game, allowing for better longevity of the tool. The reason the mod was created was since the release of EnderIO 1.12, the player required to obtain a crafting item through igniting bedrock, something I thought was tedious to perform with a regular flint and steel.

Unfortunately due to other mods, like Thermal Expansion, not being updated to 1.14, BFS lost a lot of items due to ingots not existing to craft with. I have been patiently waiting for this mods but nothing has seemed to come up yet and I'm looking at redeveloping BFS to use more unique crafting recipes to obtain all flint and steel types as possible in the 1.12 version of the mod.

The Flint of the West and East is a flint and steel that is the combination of other types of flint and steel. These, with the combination of a nether start created the Flint of the North Star (an unbreakable item with AoE features). However, due to other mods not being updated to 1.14, these item sadly aren't obtainable as of yet.

What does this mean for BFS? Well, if you are looking to use the mod for all the items and features it has to offer, I'd recommend the 1.12 version of the mod; otherwise, I'm working on a mod called More Ores which will allow for a rework on BFS to be able to obtain all the flint and steel types.

The Flint O' Dire is an Easter egg of sorts, it's in relation to the Modded MC YouTuber Direwolf20 (my favourite Modded MC YouTuber).

I hoped this answered all of your questions.

Thank you for the detailed answer. If you use tags as input for the crafting recipes you don't have to w8 for mods like thermal to update.

Hi TheUntamed,

Glad I was able to answer your questions.

Yes, the new tags system would prevent the need to rely on other mods; however, in the 1.12 version of BFS, a couple recipes involved using invar, electrum, signalum and enderium ingots only added by that mod as far as I'm aware.

Unfortunately, for example with Thermal, the mod hasn't been updated to 1.14. Now I do not know the full reason for this but I believe a lot of the big mods are undergoing a redevelopment cycle ready too for 1.16, along with Forge is now making 1.14 the new LTS (find out more about the new LTS system here. It's also fustrating that Mojang change the program structure of Minecraft almost every update, and they are currently in development of overhauling the rendering system (if it hasn't already been done in 1.15, it's something I'm yet to look into).

With this, BFS has now been updated to be more independent from these mods. If you install the mod through Twitch, then the dependency More Ores (another mod by myself) should also be installed. If you download from CurseForge, then please also download the latest file for More Ores v1.3.0 for the best compatible experience. BFS should also now use the forge tag system that replaced the old ore dictionary system, if you experience any limitations with not being able to use ingots represented by other mods than just More Ores then you can always raise a new issue stating this and what mods you have installed that have similar ingot types.
