thanks @CartoCoder! could you please add the decryption code as a comment when the map is ready for download?

Whoops! Here is url to download since original has probably expired. https://www.slashtmp.iu.edu/files/download?FILE=kevrusse%2F676992xRMQk

Great, thanks! Quick questions: 1) This should "replace" the state-level map in the current US map compilation (https://pubs.er.usgs.gov/publication/ds1052), correct? 2) Is there a reference for this map and a URL to a page describing the map?

A couple of other questions and clarifications:

  1. For units that have a single ms_age, that value can be put into ms_early_age and ms_late_age as well.

  2. Similarly, the ms_age field is typically what we communicate to users whereas early/late_age are used to assign explicit ages in millions of years, so a format like Ordovician (Cincinnatian - Champlainian) is preferred over Cincinnatian; Champlainian.

  3. Our strat name field always contains only the most specific stratigraphic names that apply to a given unit. For example, if the member is known, the formation and group do not need to be present. Additionally, the rank should always be include ("Foo Member"). In Unit D, both the Members and Formations list "Detroit River" and "Traverse", and both are included in ms_strat_name. In this case we can't infer the rank of these names

  4. In this map, the fields Lithology and Lith_other are sufficient for us. The exact formatting used for ms_lithology is not very important.

  5. When data is unknown or missing, NULL or an empty string is preferred to N/A

  6. ms_name field is great!

Cambro 1. I don't think we want to supersede the current state level map at this moment. Gary will need to make final call. Cambro 2. http://maps.indiana.edu/previewMaps/Geology/Bedrock_Geology_RGM_250K.html

JC - thanks for your comments. I have revised the attributes here. The ms_strat_name is now derived from the Members field and the Formations have been transferred to ms_hierarchy. Please advise if more massaging is required - I'm a geographer who works with geologists, sometimes these strata units are confusing to translate across fields. Cheers!
