Hi there,

first off, thanks so much for writing this - Been driving me nuts trying to 
find something I can 
natively run through OS X and this seems to haver done the job PERFECTLY. So 
thanks for that. 

I've managed to get everything up and running perfectly with no issues at all - 
certainly a breath 
of fresh air after the nightmare of trying to get various other options running 
to no avail. 

Anyway, I've got the list of all available showing in XMB, the only issue I 
seem to be having is an 
error message being displayed during video playback. 

It seems to be giving me the error pretty much whatever the video format, and 
it doesn't 
interrupt video playback at all other than having the message come up. Exact 
wording is:

"A network Error has Occurred" (80710736)

I've had a look around but haven't been able to find a difinitive fix so just 
wondering if anyone 
had any clues?

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue when running from OS X on a wired 100MB network.
Seems to happen most at the beginning of a stream (standard DivX).

I have this issue as well, it's easier to reproduce with skipping fast forward. 
I
remember getting these errors after a major PS3 update (when I was still using
MediaLink for sharing) so I'm not sure if this is on the server side.

In any case, PMS is not the only server that has this issue. It's a minor
inconvenience anyway.

Same for me but I get it anytime, I think the problem come from ps3 side...
sometimes, when I play often with search tool movie freeze and I'm disconnect 
from
server too... ps3 have very worse internet connection.

I have been having a LOT of problems with Google video searching LATELY 
(February
20th and 21st, 2009), saying "Network Error" and "trying all available 
addresses" or
something like that.  However, I feel that this is on Google's end, for other 
sites
are generally working fine.  However, Yahoo occasionally has been having the 
same
problem (even going to www.yahoo.com).  Again, other sites are working fine, 
along
with my email.  Also, MANY of the still shots from videos are now BLANK.  
Again, this
problem seems to be LATELY.  If it was my router or whatever, I would think 
that I
would have problems with a bunch of other sites, if not all of them.  However, 
this
is not the case.

I get this same error message while using MediaLink as well. It never affects 
playback, just an annoying pop-up 
message.

I have the same issue. Can confirm that for me it only happens on Xvid files. 
No problems with any other file 
type.

I am getting this after switching from a wireless to a wired connection on my 
ps3. I switched in order to stream 
highdef content but I am getting this on everything. My macbook is serving and 
it's wireless although the HD is 
on my airport router so it's wirelessly transmitting to my macbook then being 
encoded and the wirelessly 
transmitting back to the basestation and then wired to the ps3. There is no 
problem with the playback but the 
annoying message keeps popping up. Switching back to wireless on the ps3 fixes 
the issue although HD content 
playback is then stuttered and unwatchable.

Heres how I fixed it on my computer.

Under General Configuration force all network settings.
Set "Force network on interface" to your interface.
Set "Force IP of the server" to your local ip-number
Set "Force port of the server (5001 by default)" to 5001.

Try it, hope it works for you.

Yeah sounds about right.  This error only happens for divx/xvid files, or 
really anything that doesn't need to 
be transcoded.  Transcoded stuff is fine.  This error is incredibly annoying.

It seems people think it has to do with how data is transferred to the PS3,  
for example the 360 does it 
constantly while the PS3 does it in bursts, and that lowering the network 
throughput is believed to fix it, as 
the PS3 is getting too much data at once, thus causing the error.  

Not sure how much of that is true, but it does sound possible.  Hopefully a fix 
can be found, because you just 
can't pay attention when that thing keeps districting you.

Got the same issue using the PS3 Media Server as well as Eyeconnect. Elgato 
posted an
article in their knowledge base and it seems as if almost every UPnP server 
currently
has the same issue (MediaLink as well). According to the article, it is caused 
by
recent PS3 firmware changes and it seems that Elgato currenty tries to figure 
out and
resolv the issue by updating the streaming software - so maybe there is a 
workaround
beside waiting for an update of the PS3 software itself...

Could it perhaps be the native firewall inside OS X and it's packet 
investigation that's causing the net splits?

I have the same problem on wireless and  wired connect. I tried both connection 
type !

Same results as bortekfr: no issues with Medialink since upgrading to v1.70.  
With ps3mediaserver (r316 beta) I 
get a lot of "Network Error" messages when playing non-transcoded or 
non-remuxed content.  Network is 
powerline (200), server is Mac OS X 10.5.6.

I used to get this occasionally with MythTV, when trying to FF a program and 
and I've
had one occurrence on PP3MS doing the same thing.

I get this error occasionally, too.  It happens when I play xvid files with no
re-encoding.  Although for me, playback stops entirely.  About every 20 minutes 
or
so, the audio cuts out, while the video continues for about 3-8 seconds 
(playing out
buffer?) before it stops altogether, then I get the Network Error message.  I 
have to
stop and restart the movie to continue.  This error never occurred on mediatomb 
with
the same hardware/network/firmware.
Ubuntu 8.10 x64 (AMD x2 5600+) -> 1000mbit switch -> 100mbit router -> g 
wireless -> PS3.
TsmuxeR and all mencoder re-encodes work fine.

Hi, yeah I have the exact same problem as beard.chris explained.
So do anyone know about a fix for it??
It's really annoying since I like this program a lot. And if I use it on my 
older PC there is no problem, only with 
the macbook.

I recently first noticed the 80710736 error meesages while streaming avi's which
don't require re-encoding to my PS3.

in my case PS3 media server runs on a macmini, and all networking equipment is 
based
upon gigabit ethernet cabling and netgear switches in the house. After replacing
everything, i eventually narrowed these problems down when I replaced a recently
installed 2m ethernet patch cable, and the errors disapeared....

In my case bad cabling quality caused the errors, and i now utilise cat-6 cables
end-to-end !!!

i tried some things and so far i can tell that ( in my case) it´s not a 
network/bandwith issue :

until yesterday i had a 100Mbit connection ( 100Mbit from my MacPro to Router 
(DLINK DIR655) and from 
there a 100Mbit connection to the PS3). With that i tried some settings : 
Automatic Network-speed detection, 
forced the devices to 100Mbits , changed Full-Duplex/Half-Duplex, UpnP 
On/Off,QoS On/Off  and so on...  
but with neither setting i had an improvement.
Then i changed my ( old ) cables against newest Cat7 Network Cables and 
switched everything 
(Mac;Router,PS3) to force 1000Mbit ... and guess what : nothing changed. I 
still got broken playback in SD and 
HD streaming after around 20 minutes...
by the way: somewhere i read that maybe the video-scaling of the Ps3 could be 
the reason for the error. so i 
also tried switching that off ( but watching a SD-Video unscaled in an 
HD-Resolution is not much fun) ; but 
that also had no effect.

The only thing i learned from all the testing is, that playback is always 
broken after around 20 minutes ( 
regardless if SD or HD content) and that network bandwith seems not to be the 
problem...

by the way : some months ago i never had any troubles when streaming.but after 
SONY released a firmware-
update ( i think it must be 2.40 or 2.41) the trouble started...

I hope that developers can fix that soon, because with that errors and broken 
playback it´s useless... :-(

Since this affects all OSX media servers and it was caused by a firmware update 
from
Sony it's unlikely this will be fixed soon. It seems to have something to do 
with OSX
and the PS3 and not the media server itself.

As a workaround, you can force a transcode on any native files by going into the
transcode folder.

Maybe it will be fixed in Snow Leopard or a new firmware update.

its the second post, mainly it just says that: 
Before 2.40 update the DLNA identification string was:
X-AV-Client-Info: av=5.0; cn="Sony Computer Entertainment"; mn="PLAYSTATION3"; 
mv="1.0";
User-Agent: UPnP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.00

Now, after 2.40/2.41/2.42 the DLNA idenification string is:
X-AV-Client-Info: av=5.0; cn="Sony Computer Entertainment Inc."; 
mn="PLAYSTATION 3";
mv="1.0";
User-Agent: UPnP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.00

Perhaps the dlna ID string put out by the ps3 is causing the problem? perhaps 
not but

I get the same thing on Kubuntu 9.04, 100Mb wired, transcoded or not.  It 
doesn't
bother me much since it doesn't interrupt playback.  That's 10x better than I 
can say
for the other media servers I've tried.  I do wonder why it happens, though; it 
only
does it on, say, 1 in 4 videos.
