Some kind of external links would be really helpful, esp. for essay-like projects that need to nod to work done by others.

I'm in favour of markdown-style links, just b/c it reduces cognitive overhead if students are also learning markdown.

I'm not clear how these would work. Each link would essentially be a floating text panel? Of course it would be amazing to enable links inside HTML panels but that seems out of scope given the way those panels are currently rendered, right?
