[4/12/17 UPDATE] Csgo sound is slowed down and stutters greatly MAC #1368

Closed AwpData closed 7 years ago

AwpData commented 7 years ago

After the update on 4/12/17, CSGO's sound was messed up. No need to go into further detail. There are no frame drops or anything graphical related, it is just the audio that was messed up after the update

iMac 2010 3.06ghz intel core i3 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB OSX El Capitan

  1. Join a game
  2. Listen to sounds
  3. Result is a stuttering/slowed down sound effect.
ghost commented 7 years ago

Can confirm the same on Linux, you don't even need to join a game, just inspect a weapon on the main menu to get the same stuttering sound.

ghost commented 7 years ago

Also, I'm no longer able to switch the Audio Output Configuration, it's stuck on Stereo Headphones (HRTF).

kisak-valve commented 7 years ago

Hello @3HeadedMonkey, please open a separate issue report for the audio selection issue.

daniel-Jones commented 7 years ago

I would call it audio stuttering, same for myself, Arch Linux

@daniel-Jones stuttering, that was the word I was looking for thanks!

davidw-valve commented 7 years ago

I am looking into this.

gyurikol commented 7 years ago

increase snd_mixahead... temp fix still poor tho

Vauff commented 7 years ago

Having same issue on Arch Linux, audio keeps stuttering/clipping. It gets really bad if I ALT+TAB out of the game.

ghost commented 7 years ago

I am having the same issue, I am running linux (ubuntu 16.04) Please, fix this my audio is wack now lol.

daedaless commented 7 years ago

Getting the same issue on macOS 10.12.4.

ghost commented 7 years ago

Can confirm on Archlinux, this choppy sound is horrible :page_facing_up:

TCLG commented 7 years ago

I'm on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS can confirm this to! Video

The sound is even glitches when its minimized in background as you can hear at the beginning of the Video.

ghost commented 7 years ago

Using a 2011 iMac with an Intel Core i5-2500S, 12GB RAM, and a Radeon 6770M. The audio skips and stutters when in a game. I'm running macOS 10.12.4.

jeticg commented 7 years ago

Seriously, I am using Mac Pro 2013 with 6 cores and Dual D300 and 32GB RAM, and it still feels like my computer is going to blow up. What exactly happened? I remember CSGO used to be playable.

alexrock88 commented 7 years ago

This bug should've been squashed before release... pretty game breaking. Hope they prioritize this and get a fix out tonight.

kisak-valve commented 7 years ago

This issue report has been acknowledged and is being looked into. There are plenty of confirmations and any further off-topic discussion may be removed past this point.

Feel free to vote for this issue report by adding a :+1: reaction to the top post.

carloshpds commented 7 years ago

A curious thing, it seems to happen only when my character is looking to the shots.

ryan33020 commented 7 years ago

Doubt it will make a difference, for me selecting any audio option other than Stereo Headphones HRTF under Audio Output Configuration cleans up the issue. Unfortunately the apply button is gone so it reverts back to Stereo Headphones HRTF the moment i leave the menu. It does help at least when I am dead.

jchapa commented 7 years ago

I too am experiencing the problem. In the console, I receive a series of repetitive messages:

Voice channel 0 circular buffer overflow! Voice channel 0 circular buffer overflow! Voice channel 0 circular buffer overflow! Voice channel 0 circular buffer overflow! Voice channel 0 circular buffer overflow! Voice channel 0 circular buffer overflow! Voice channel 0 circular buffer overflow! 0: Reinitialized 4 predictable entities

daniel-Jones commented 7 years ago

I'm able to temporarily (and consistently for a whole session) solve the issue in game by toggling an fps change multiple times (fast) using this config https://pastebin.com/FCQ59zdi

inormalize commented 7 years ago

snd_async_flush will solve it for a few seconds.

mackatozis commented 7 years ago

I just got these minidumps related to this issue :

kisak-valve commented 7 years ago

Sorry that it was not clear, additional confirmations will be removed so that the discussion can focus on workarounds and/or resolution of this issue.

ImEli115 commented 7 years ago

Im sure everyones seen, some people are recommending using snd_mixahead and it helps a little. Still pretty distracting but these things happen :)

shobhitg commented 7 years ago

@kisak-valve won't it be better to revert the update meanwhile you guys figure it out?

arno01 commented 7 years ago

as @daniel-Jones mentioned, it has something to do with fps_max value. In the main game menu, setting fps_max below 80 (e.g. 60) will cause terrible sound stutters... and with the value above 90 the sound appears to be more-less normal. I am wondering how did this technically happened? :-)

Waiting for the fix though ...

(Linux / Ubuntu 16.04)

Scriptiee commented 7 years ago

Archlinux here, same issue. snd_use_hrtf 0 seems to fix it in game (somewhat)

igraltist commented 7 years ago

@Scriptiee no this does not help. All workarounds does not really help. Main problem is just release without any testing before in real game. Soon the update was out sound was broken even when you stay in lobby and switch to other desktop. The users are beta tester again.

Scriptiee commented 7 years ago

fix works for me in game, however, I might have other settings that add to it. Yes, alt-tabbing from the game makes the sound stutter, but in game it seems to be fine

My autoexec has these:

snd_use_hrtf "0"
windows_speaker_config "1"
snd_mixahead "0.05"
snd_front_headphone_position "45.0"
snd_rear_headphone_position "90.0"
snd_headphone_pan_exponent "1.2"
snd_headphone_pan_radial_weight "0.5"
snd_musicvolume "0"
DarkMatter commented 7 years ago

I have tried all "solutions" suggested in the thread so far and none have yielded any audible results. I'm running a late 2015 iMac Retina 4K 3.1GHz 8GB DDR3 i5.

igraltist commented 7 years ago

switch in pulseaudio resample-method = ffmpeg its helps a bit main problem still alive

davidw-valve commented 7 years ago

We have just shipped an update which should solve this problem.

naku-i386 commented 7 years ago

snd_use_hrtf "0" snd_mixahead "0.15" - you can bump this up but your sound will be delayed

Can confirm that these make it a little bit better, game is playable but definitely not enjoyable. Still, my ears are bleeding.

Linux Mint / i5-4590

naku-i386 commented 7 years ago

@davidw-valve Yayy! Will check on this right now.

AwpData commented 7 years ago

@davidw-valve Thank you! Will check it out later.

roge commented 7 years ago

@davidw-valve This update has not fixed the issue for me on Linux.

EDIT: See later comment.

luk1337 commented 7 years ago

The update that fixes this issue is live! Thanks @kisak-valve @davidw-valve.

Vauff commented 7 years ago

Has fixed it for me on Arch Linux, thanks Valve!

ericek111 commented 7 years ago

There is no stuttering anymore, but after changing the audio settings (e. g. changing HRTF settings using GUI, not console), it doesn't save.

Also, I think the sound stutters with HRTF, but I'm not sure.

vitaliyb commented 7 years ago

Same room or close sounds sounds as usual, but far sounds are still glitchy.

vitaliyb commented 7 years ago

Confirm, disabling HRTF after new update fixes the issue completely.

naku-i386 commented 7 years ago

@davidw-valve

Tested it. Main problem was fixed. Although for me the ak-47 sound is "too fast" when shooting full-auto. I think all smgs and rifles have the same issue but it's only very niticable with the AK.

Linux Mint / i5-4590

roge commented 7 years ago

@davidw-valve The audio fix didn't work for me because my config has snd_mixahead set to 0.05, increasing snd_mixahead to the default value of 0.1 has eliminated the issue entirely with HRTF disabled, and eliminated it with nearby sounds with HRTF enabled. The issue still exists with distant HRTF sounds.

Uxinator commented 7 years ago

snd_use_hrtf "0"
windows_speaker_config "1"
snd_mixahead "0.05"
snd_front_headphone_position "45.0"
snd_rear_headphone_position "90.0"
snd_headphone_pan_exponent "1.2"
snd_headphone_pan_radial_weight "0.5"
snd_musicvolume "0"

What are the defaults for these?

Uxinator commented 7 years ago

Anyone?

komalarn commented 7 years ago

Nothing was fixed (just menu sounds, but who cares) ... Ingame sounds are still choppy and ,,buzzy"... //MacOsX El Capitan, Macbook Pro 2015late

dmattsamuel commented 7 years ago

snd_mixahead ".15" should fix it for you

AwpData commented 7 years ago

@davidw-valve Just checked CSGO, all the sounds are fixed! Thanks

p4ulinely commented 7 years ago

@Uxinator u can type the commands, then the console will return the default value...

Uxinator commented 7 years ago

It's fine. Everything is fixed. Thanks 🗡
