OS X performance problems after 64 bit update #791

Open davidw-valve opened 8 years ago

davidw-valve commented 8 years ago

We are aware that there are concerns surrounding the performance of CS:GO on OS X after the 64-bit update.

This issue is for the purpose of tracking performance problems with OS X. Other performance issues reported on OS X will be closed as duplicates of this issue.

We are currently investigating possibilities for improving performance.

Possible workaround: Adjust your graphics settings. The update changed graphics settings on some systems and this may cause performance to seem worse. Consider lowering graphics settings.

As replies to this issue you may post system information, graphics settings, along with the performance you experienced before and after the update.

imac, late 2009 2,66ghz i5 12gb 1067mhz ddr3 ati radeon hd 4850 512mb 10.11.5

I cant put my finger on this, but beside the obvious fps drops, it feels less smooth. I'm playing on the lowest possible settings with 800x600 resolution. 64bit: 30-120fps 32bit: 150-290fps

I reverted back to the 32bit client.

adamchin commented 8 years ago

HOW DO YOU CHANGE BACK TO 32 BIT CLIENT ON MAC

Reckless197 commented 8 years ago

you can change it back?

brontex8 commented 8 years ago

since the update, i cant play in my imac 2009 correctly too. the mouse isnt shown in steam market inside game, (so i wont see weapon skins) and i have fps problems (not because internet) and a rare thing, so annoying, i see in all maps around me a rare thing, like a square with lines. wtf is this update? pls

pitch282 commented 8 years ago

I reverted to 32bit and am fine now. 64 bit was unplayable the game loaded slow, sound would freeze in menus, 30 FPS in game

Ubuntu 16.04 (4.4.0.22-generic) AMD FX 8350 16GB RAM GTX 950 SCC

Was getting 300FPS before now 30

This helped but did not totally fix:

!/bin/bash

rm /tmp/out.stuff
ln /dev/null /tmp/out.stuff -s

Reverting to 32bit resolved my issues per thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/4l6eg6/64bit_linux_fix_after_52516_update/

davidw-valve commented 8 years ago

@pitch282: this is specifically for OS X. You should report Linux performance issues separately.

However the issue you are talking about with /tmp/out.stuff was fixed in an update last night.

adamchin commented 8 years ago

kayhy how do you revert it back to 32

LocalDropkick commented 8 years ago

There is this weird stuttering every now and then even though it seems smooth but no.

adamchin commented 8 years ago

atm it's pretty much unplayable

jonathontoon commented 8 years ago

I'm getting an average of 30-40 fps in all game modes, even when turned down to 4:3 on all lowest possible settings. When in a firefight it usually drops to 10fps or below. Before the update I could usually get between 60 to 100 fps. RIP weekend, hope you guys can find a fix soon. 😅

ghost commented 8 years ago

Im getting only 60 fps and I have always played on lowest settings since i started cs go a few years ago 800x600 lowest settings ive been getting 130 fps before w/ the 64 bit update its gone to 60. Can we just have the option to revert to 32 bit if we want? :/

When I start csgo now it just a plain black screen with the sound but I can't see anything. I also can't switch screens and the only way to get off is to quit the game with command + Q Please can you give us an option to revert to the old settings valve this has really ruined my weekend and everyone's in my school we all have to use mac ahhhh

JJ-KIT commented 8 years ago

Same here, 2 days ago I couldn't use my mouse in game and now, I get a black screen when I load up the game and can't do anything, have to exit using escape or the powerbutton.

rsu commented 8 years ago

Please revert, it ruined everything.

shahsyed-pcln commented 8 years ago

Here are my specs:

$ uname -a Darwin Shah-Macbook 15.4.0 Darwin Kernel Version 15.4.0: Fri Feb 26 22:08:05 PST 2016; root:xnu-3248.40.184~3/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64 Processor: Intel Core i7 2.2 GHz Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 6000

Graphics Settings: screen shot 2016-05-28 at 2 44 49 am

Edit: There is an error, I have FXAA Anti-Aliasing disabled in a real gaming scenario.

In terms of the update, it fixed a lot of cursor issues I have been having, which is great! I am happy with the update. I understand that switching to a 64 bit application definitely caused some performance issues, though not as detrimental as everyone has been saying. I have been getting around 70-130 FPS before the update and now I get 40-90 depending on the map, or which areas of the map I am in. I know this comment won't be read or probably will be buried, but I appreciate the support you guys are doing and hope to see some more optimization and OSX/Linux bugfixes in the future.

Cheers!

First of all there is a lot of hate on here but thanks for trying to fix it so fast. System information: Mac Mini (late 2012), 2.3ghz intel core i7, 8bg 1600mhz DDR3 memory (this is 1 ram card and not 2 as one of my slots is broken), Intel HD graphics 4000 1536 MB

I have all my graphics on low, everything that would hinder fps disabled, 800*600 resolution (on a 3rd party AOC monitor)

Fps has gone from 120 to about 40-50, and with the stuttering others are complaining about here, I hope you can fix it soon, thank you!

PiMpKa commented 8 years ago

I have the same problems as all MAC users. Reduced FPS during the game , incorrect folding of the game , the game does not display an icon . Today, I can not just roll up the game, but also to go into it. When you start it hangs a black screen.

danikmastermpp commented 8 years ago

why can't you just release update for couple of people correct mistakes and post it to everyone else.

After launching the game, I am greeted with a black screen and Command+Tab will not respond.

Fps use to be at like 100+ in Mirage Inferno and De_Dust2 can't play on anothers maps like cbble overpass or Cache but those 3 maps were fine but when shooting after update it feels as if I'm running a potato as a graphic card

hadlee10 commented 8 years ago

unplayable.... again

samuelthng commented 8 years ago

There seems to be small stutters as if there's a network spike in the frames although fps reads that the average only dropped about 10 frames (This is true even in the main menu) and with 6ms ping. It also feels like there is a slight input lag, can really feel it during flicks, you literally see your screen move shortly after your hand has flicked to your enemy's head.

Hope these info might help in some way.

jgodbee commented 8 years ago

Several friends, myself and a number of Steam forum posts indicate a huge problem with the mouse in game. The cursor works perfectly in all menus of the game, but during gameplay, its impossible to look around without a ton of stoppage, choppiness, tearing, etc. The game is unplayable. No amount of settings tweaks fix the issue. Game has been running great for 2 years prior to this update.

Tele42 commented 8 years ago

@jgodbee the mouse sensitivity issue is being tracked at #926 and appears to be unrelated to this issue report.

maxmuegge commented 8 years ago

I posted before, with the newest patch i have higher fps now, but still average only 100–130 and several huge fps drops up to 30. It's not really working smoothly at all and the 32-bit fix doesn't work anymore, so i guess it's time to stop playing. Let us choose the 32-bit version until you get stuff done, at least it worked fine.

also: – even at higher fps it doesn't feel as smooth as the 32bit version – random mouse flicks – noticable input lag

georgekz commented 8 years ago

Guys sorry but the last 2 days the game plays better than before! More efficient , fps are more stable than before in 32 bit (not more not less). Thanks valve!

maxmuegge commented 8 years ago

disabled multicore rendering, now i have lower fps 80–130, but its at least running really smooth!

D8OUT commented 8 years ago

Also joining. It is unstable. I used to have around 80 fps, but now I'm running on 40-30 fps. Can't even play

FilipeOS commented 8 years ago

I bought a new imac... worst choice ever to play... can't even play CS GO, the mouse is completly mad.

Intel Core i5, 2,8 GHz, 8gb ram, iMac 21.5" late 2015, Intel Iris Pro 6200. Steelseries keyboard and mouse sensei :(

Hope this helps

ozkatz commented 8 years ago

Same here. Macbook Pro 15" mid-2014 2.5Ghz Core i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048MB. FPS dropped from ~120 to ~30 and is very inconsistent.

shripadk commented 8 years ago

@FilipeOS Install SmoothMouse and change your SmoothMouse settings in Preferences pane. Then goto your console in CS and type: "m_rawinput 1"

FilipeOS commented 8 years ago

@shripadk according of what read I don't need that because steel series do that on engine 3

frtbkr commented 8 years ago

So after raw input update i feel like sensivity changed? when i turn on raw input, mouse feels a little slower?

NikoCSGO commented 8 years ago

@frtbkr Isn't that because raw input takes the reading directly from the mouse and bypasses os x sensitivity?

frtbkr commented 8 years ago

@NikoCSGO so basically what this update actually does; forcing me to adjust to a new sensivity?

Tele42 commented 8 years ago

@frtbkr if the sensitivity feels off, then adjust it in the Options -> keyboard / mouse -> Mouse Sensitivity until you are comfortable. Since it is a different input method, the calibration in-game may vary, but as long as you can adjust it to something you like, then it's just a trivial config adjustment.

NikoCSGO commented 8 years ago

@frtbkr basically your sensitivity before wasn't a true sensitivity which you could have re-created on lets say other systems like windows... Raw input feels slow because it is not disturbed by any software. Anyway thats what I think.

NikoCSGO commented 8 years ago

Anyway the problem I'm having now is the low fps whilst a lot of action is going on the screen such as shooting/flashbangs/many enemys exc. I tried everything to fix it, lower resolution/settings exc. Please Valve fix this issue if you can.

tmjohari commented 8 years ago

I have ~60 fps but the stuttering is too much makes me wanna puke. They need to fix the stuttering.Other bug I can live with it or work around it but the fps stuttering makes me dont wanna play cs.

NikoCSGO commented 8 years ago

@tmjohari Yeah, the fps is the most annoying and frustrating thing at the moment, it makes the spray/aim impossible to work well :/

FilipeOS commented 8 years ago

Is this the reason for i only see the enemy after he shoot me first? I notice a big lag and mouse problems. There's a lag when I shoot

itsaphel commented 8 years ago

macbook pro, mid-2014, 13" model

this update completely messed everything up. mouse sensitivity is messed up, the game keeps minimising and maximising. my crosshair now shows the enlarged mac cursor which is very annoying now, i get no fps drops but movement is much more laggy.

really valve...? test before releasing ffs
