• We have provided an outline of the milestones that will guide us through this project duration.

1. Understand the basics

• What genetic variation is and the various types of genetic variations
• Understand what variant calling is
• Understand the importance of variants

2. Assessing variant calling pipelines

• Understand the existing variant calling pipelines
• Understand the various types of file inputs and outputs and make interpretations therein
• Understand various tools used for variant calling
• Familiarize with the various workflow languages
• Identify the gaps in the existing pipelines and fill them
• Develop a standardized variant calling workflow

3. Performance record

• Comprehensively document our work: outline each day task and review our weekly achievement
• Use wiki and github pages to document our work
• Provide periodic updates on the project progress (code reviews)
• Write a comprehensive report on the whole project and present our findings

4. Mentorship

• Seek help and guidance from our Mentors and the entire team

5. Work ethic

• Collaborate positively and effectively with each other

6. Skills development

• Develop excellent writing skills
