venomousbirds: i asked people to at least summarize
mctsts: cant summarize if I have no idea what the thread is about
mctsts: I had to reread this entire thread
venomousbirds: me neither
e_thsn: We could always run a second special and make it the mystery game
mctsts: its an issue that's been bothering me for a long time so I think it's worth attempting a resolution in v17
venomousbirds: im not gonna reread threads, i have a life, thats why i asked people who came up with the ideas
shapechange: i think the monarch role is a pretty good example of what we were looking for for the D0 role - maybe not perfect, but i think ingame evidence will help us refine it more than pure theorising will
venomousbirds: i already categorized what i saw as doable for v17
mctsts: cool great, now we can continue discussion
mctsts: no need to start attacking people
mctsts:
i think the monarch role is a pretty good example of what we were looking for for the D0 role - maybe not perfect, but i think ingame evidence will help us refine it more than pure theorising will
yeah, we can still do some theorizing though
venomousbirds: im a bit annoyed that i tried to get v17 done, failed and now we're suddenly not in that rush anymore that i thought we were
venomousbirds: and im confused why
mctsts: We still are
venomousbirds: then why are we discussing unfinished things last minute
mctsts: because they are unfinished
mctsts: glad we talked about it
shapechange: i think maybe you two differ on how unfinished/unresolvable this role is
venomousbirds: as i dont think just pulling something old out and finishing it last minute for a quick release is a good strategy
venomousbirds: its old, people need to refreh on it
mctsts: solving issues now rather than in 6 months seems like a good idea
venomousbirds: and i think this role will need some fixing
mctsts:
its old, people need to refreh on it
Which is why I summarized it
venomousbirds: the heir part makes this almost more important/stronger than mayor
venomousbirds: i think
shapechange: also this thread isn't that old, it's from late october
venomousbirds: not yhis one
venomousbirds: the referred to monarch thread
mctsts: this thread is an issue
mctsts: the monarch thread is a suggestion
venomousbirds: ???
mctsts: I used parts of the suggestion to propose a solution for the issue
venomousbirds: i also think the heir mechanic feels weird for an elected role
venomousbirds: its elected, which means its chosen
mctsts: It's a mechanical necessity
venomousbirds: so adding the heir part defeats the elected part
venomousbirds: which i think is confusing and quite bad/inconsistent
venomousbirds: elected roles should probably not be obtainable besides election (excluding offseason)
venomousbirds: the knighting ability is cool tho
venomousbirds: i think adding on to that (the longer monarch stays alive, the more people it can knight) would be more interesting
mctsts: There is several ways heir/knight merging could go:
• The monarch picks one heir who gains the extra vote and is the heir - this removes the part where you cant reselect one player, but constantly switching the heir thematically makes little sense • The monarch knights one player every day who gains the extra and is the heir - but why is the knighted player the heir?
I'm not sure if merging the powers actually thematically makes sense
<@458727748504911884>
shapechange: instead of an heir becoming a monarch, they could just gain the knighted attribute permanently
shapechange: so you choose a knight each day and then when you die, one person is just the last knight forever
mctsts:
so adding the heir part defeats the elected part
however there being a heir is sort of key to make the election achieve its purpose
mctsts: we dont want each N1 attack to be the monarch
venomousbirds: i like that
mctsts: and we dont want the monarch election to be the same exact situation as mayor where the protective roles are the only ones that go for it
mctsts:
so you choose a knight each day and then when you die, one person is just the last knight forever
this seems quite a bit weaker and less interesting than using the heir mechanic
venomousbirds: i think maybe having the monarch be less significant early game and more threatening late game might work better than having an unelected with an elected role
shapechange: I think this has been discussed before and discarded, but maybe we should reconsider moving the mayor election to D0 (or add another election on D0? Could prevent so much randoming during N1.
