Same problem here. I'm wondering if it's not a mencoder problem though, because
I have the same thing with mp4tools

For information, output in console is:
Subler[11004]: AudioCodec returned an output channel layout incompatible with
its output format. 6 != 2

Also getting this error. Happens with AC-3 audio only (and I'm on DP2 as well).

It won't start at all on Mountain Lion DP3,1; Subler won't even start.

Do you already have an idea how to fix this?
Could an updated libmp4v2 fix this?
Original comment by phriedri...@gmail.com

No, the problem is in a52codec, the ac3 core audio component that is bundled
with perian.

I see, thanks.
Interesting is, that when I convert a file from MKV to M4V or MP4 and
passthrough the AC3-audio, the QuickTime-Player can play the file. (With the
named component, maybe.)
I'll have a deeper look at this tomorrow, but my knowledge of (Objective)-C is
a bit rusty.

QuickTime has got an ac-3 decoder from Apple, but other apps can't use it from
what I read.

I have tried in Mountain DP4, GM and also today the Final Version, it still run
up with a dialog box "Audio Converter Error - The Audio Converter can not be
initialized" when I try to convert the MKV file to MP4 with setting the Action
"AC-3 to AAC "

I have the same problem after I upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8 yesterday. I
tried converting MKV to M4V with Subler 0.14 and 0.15 b3 and received the same
error message.

Here's a fixed (?) a52codec.component.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/34821905/A52Codec.component.zip
It should replace the one in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components or
~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components (the Library folder in your Home folder).

Make sure to select "multi-channel output" in perian preferences.

Though I'm wondering, will there be a new version of Subler soon that actually
fixes the problem automatically.

The new A52Codec component did the trick for me. No more crashes under Mountain
Lion.
Thanks for the quick fix, and many thanks for Subler!! It's a wonderful tool
that I use a lot.
P.S.: I just sent a small donation...

Workds fine with the fixed component. Plus I use .mp4 extension and 64-bits
option.
Anyway, thanks a lot for such a program, I am new to Mac and has just started
using Subler =)
P.S. Ready to translate Subler to Russian :)

Would this be this an issue with Subler, Perian, or both? I downloaded the
updated component, set it to multi-channel, and it worked.
Also, when this error pops up, Subler discards everything I was working on.
After typing in metadata for 15 minutes, I lost everything and it made a
zero-length file. Would it be possible to have Subler fail gracefully and
write a file with the metadata and remaining tracks?

only one problem, ive been looking all over and i cant find the solution, maybe
you guys can help me. As far as i know, since mountain lion, apple hides the
files in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components, i have not been able to find the
option to show, and since i cant see the files, when i drag and drop the files
to this location, it does not give me the option to replace.
Please help!!

I was just wondering why the only solution is to replace the codec, when other
apps (e.g. MP4tools) can just convert audio the same way they did on Snow
Leopard and Lion.
I don't know anything about programming and such, so please forgive my
ignorance if this is a stupid question :-)

I converted a MKV file into mp4 quiet well. Then I try to do it again with
another movie and Subtler doesn't work. I mean it makes a small file in less
than a second and then a red circle appears to the left of the file name in the
queue window. How come I just did it and now it does not work? What is
happening?

The updated A52Codec.component did not work. Some files are converted without a
problem and others are not. Here is the log from the console:

I have an other very simple solution. Maybe too simple as I am pretty "novice"
for multimedia. When I open the project, Subler shows the different track and
the action to perform. For the audio track, I just chose "passthru", and that's
it. No more bug. Might not be suitable for all files, but it worked the one I
needed, and I did not had to update the A52Codec.
