There's a Multimedia page. /multimedia. It's in one of the footer menus.
Multimedia works a bit different than the old site. Audio, Video, or Slideshow nodes can be created. Each one is designed specifically for its purpose. You can include them in the major site categories, so we're not always just providing article content. I also separate them out from the categories into that multimedia page, which is kinda like a YouTube search result page. The teaser image functions as the video thumbnail and more information is provided in the teaser than with the old site's multimedia page.
Have you seen the multimedia page linked to in the footer menu? I'm not sure what to do with this issue. Go ahead an propose a redesign if you like. Thanks.
Would it be possible to have a YouTube banner to our channel, in the same way we currently have on the old one?
You mean this one right Ric?:
If so, yeah of course. I would ask that someone make an even better one incorporating that white robot. Make something like this:
Everyone please see Issue #26.
Oooh, I like that bottom one! Where do you reckon it could go - based on that I could make one.
Right sidebar of Multimedia page.
More details in Issue #26.
Just sent you an email with the banner
You can close this now ;-)
Ok closing for now. If someone ever has a definite redesign proposal to make for the multimedia page, feel free to reopen. Leaving as "needs info".
Reopening - we can do something more with the multimedia page to make it look more playlisty? once issue #41 is done.
When uploading videos, do we go through the same process as when adding a new article?
Forgive me if this has been asked before: could we have an automated feature such as we have in the old one? Also, could we have a teaser for the videos on the frontpage?
You add videos just like articles. You can't upload a video file to the server. That's a headache we don't want. You have to use hosting sites like YouTube, Vimeo, etc to upload your video and copy the embed code into the embed code field on the video node form. They get categorized and appear in categories. They appear on the frontpage in the middle column. See http://ap.openpublishapp.com/ They appear on a multimedia page.
could we have an automated feature such as we have in the old one?
I would add some videos, see how the process works, how they're displayed on the site, and then think about this again. Automation will take some serious work to get the automatically created video nodes to appear in different places on the site properly. I can put a YouTube feed on a page but automatically categorizing, adding teaser text, etc is tough to say the least. Replacing the current multimedia page with a singular YouTube feed would require a rethink of how we want to handle multimedia on the site. Right now it functions kind of like an article node that has special features. Multimedia appears throughout the site and not on a singular multimedia page.
Do I need to place a thumbnail for each video as well?
Nevermind, I read previous entries to this issue.
So, I create it through = Create Content - Video. But it requires certain mandatory fields such as Teaser image, Body Content, Section or category. Am I missing something?
Those fields are required. Read user guide and watch vid: https://github.com/ZeitNews/main/wiki/Adding-&-Editing-Content#wiki-videos
This is now sorted. If anyone has any questions please watch Joe's great tutorial on how to upload it.
Going to maybe do something more with the multimedia page to make it look more playlisty, once issue #41 is done.
