Description

This PR closes #418 and closes #419

Changes

Simplify publish CI pipeline and remove broken branch name checks.
Checkout correct commit when triggering the publish workflow manually.
Fix formatting of bumpversion version string (escaping of the '{' and '}' characters was only needed in the tox file).
Fetch only the latest commit on CI instead of the entire history (speedup).
Update contributing docs' local CI testing section.
