fresh installs of EDMC 5+ seem to handle setting and retrieving of preferences differently, we provisionally tested the retrieval of preferences using the new .get_str (in nextupdate) and all seemed fine but seems if a setting has never been set it creates this as a boolean. further investigation needed and recode of preferences part of each HH plugins effected

Fixed in nextupdate branch, will be pulled in to master when we feel we have enough for a new version
