The paper I received was 30 pages long and the desk reject period was one week. That's too short and I strongly suspect will encourage a culture not of desk reject, but "reject without reading." Perhaps that is what we want in the first phase, but it's not clear what the balance is. Personally, I think 2-weeks is more reasonable, especially if you have to triangulate with other busy scholars, which the current rules require. I suspect it will still be a rough skim, which is "maybe" ok, but it depends on what our goals are with the new desk reject rules.
