I don't know if this is a known issue but I noticed softsubs are not accurate in vlc or mpv when you time them with the corresponding hardsubs in aegisub.
There is only one workaround which is to do a 4 seconds/1 frame global shift backward so the timing of softsubs is accurate in the aegisub videoplayer and before muxing the softsubs, doing a 4 seconds/1 frame global shift forward so the softsubs appear as expected in the vlc player and mpv.
