Chrome crashes immediately after routing. #105

All of a sudden Google Chrome started crashing every time I try to route it. It used to work perfectly fine but now I can't use it all. Has anyone else found a fix for this?

WildArms commented 5 years ago

I'm having the same issue, I restarted the computer and tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't work either :(

JStuve commented 5 years ago

Having the same issue as well. First time it's ever happened..

Caedes55 commented 5 years ago

Having the same issue. Starting happening 2/8/2019. Chrome was not updated afaik. Unable to duplicate or route chrome to different audio device without chrome crashing. Had zero issues since 4/28/2018

DaRkL3AD3R commented 5 years ago

Can confirm this issue as well. Obviously something in Chrome changed, probably a security check to prevent apps from hooking into it. Not sure what can be done about this. What a tragic change.

Chromfalke commented 5 years ago

Having the same issue with the Chromium-based browser Vivaldi. They recently upgraded to Chromium 72.0.3626.82 and that is most likely causing the problem. I don't know what version of Chromium Chrome is currently using, as Vivaldi is always a few versions behind, but the issue is most likely also caused by a new version of Chromium.

twistedsanity commented 5 years ago

I'm getting the same only change is I believe chrome has updated.

AgentVault commented 5 years ago

I also confirm Chrome crashes as soon as I apply the audio router. I run two web browsers, with audio routed to different places. Firefox is my second browser and I would route it instead, but it comes up with a bunch of sources and the routing fails on all. Same with Edge, only access is completely denied anyway. audio router

Update: Microsoft Explorer works

I think that this is a problem on the side of Chrome and it can not be solved by Audio Router. If Chrome, we will temporarily substitute this. AudioPick

m4tic commented 5 years ago

AudioRouter was my jam... I mainly used it for simple functions; like, obviously, selecting an audio output.. Win10 added that with it's game bar update. I also used it for duplicating audio to both my desktop audio system and my TV's audio system. This all has broken in recent updates of Windows, Firefox and Chrome.

Totally not a product shill but VoiceMeeter is working for me now. Just select A1 & A2 hardware out and bam now I can sleep with white noise all around me (tinnitus makes silence real bad for me)

ssgoku129 commented 5 years ago

CheVolume is still working for Chrome, I'm debating buying it because of how useful the function for me is... Why doesn't Chrome just let you pick a default output device like every other app?!

This is a good alternative but the writing's on the wall for Audio Router. At least we can keep it and use it for older Win32 programs that won't be getting updates any time soon. Thanks for the suggestion though this extension is great. Honestly if Google is going to break this functionality from Audio Router, they should be including it built in like this extension does.

I cannot tell if changing compatibility worsens my CPU usage, but changing compatibility to anything else in Google Chrome's properties solved the issue for me. I'm not sure if it will work for everyone, though. I use Audio Router (and have been loving it so far) in combination with streaming to route certain audio programs to either virtual audio cables or to simply not be broadcasted when I am streaming. Hope my solution helps or I hope a more definitive solution can be found eventually.

Someone give this person a medal ^

Solid solution, I'm noticing the lease performance hits on Windows 7 compatibility, 8 seems funky.. I imagine this means Chrome is moving towards Windows 10 style of apps which as we all know, don't work with Audio Router.

1MSR1 YOU MY FRIEND ARE A GOD. Works like a charm. Solid fix my friend. I literally created an account just to comment. Lol

Ahh, sweet satisfaction at last! Thank you so much 1MSR1.

For anyone not working still, double check the compatibility settings. Mine mysteriously kept reverting back but using "Change settings for all users" and applying directly to the original program executable kept it from reverting. Might have something to do with launching chrome from a pinned taskbar icon.

1MSR1 commented 5 years ago

Glad I could help. I noticed the disappearing of settings too, will give your suggestion a go. Thank you as well.

Thank you everyone in this thread for providing solutions for this that work! I was relieved to find out I wasn't the only one who suddenly started having this problem ~6 weeks back.

This issue has been quiet for a month, but I thought I'd point out another alternative piece of software for those in the meantime.

EarTrumpet is available on the Microsoft Store, and is able to route Chrome and Firefox without issue.

Ragyuu commented 5 years ago

Thankyou @itstaylorharry. It works perfectly!

reki commented 5 years ago

I think that we have already solved this problem. But I learned that there is a default routing feature of Windows 10. This can not be duplicated, but you can control Input and Output. You may not need to, but I will introduce you.

Hello, I wanted to comment that this solution has not worked for me.

However, this other solution has worked.

Excuse the double post.
