One option is to

Preserve all formatting. This would result in the BioSimulations database containing HTML.
Change runBioSimulations/BioSimulations to render some HTML elements (i.e. sanitize all but a few basic types of elements and demote headings to mesh with our theme)

- ol, ul, li
- br, p
- sup, sub
- headings

I changed the description attribute to accept original-flavored markdown.
