bongochong / CombinedPrivacyBlockLists

Ad-blocking hosts files, IP block lists, PAC filters, ABP / uBO / ADG subscriptions, and a whole lot more. All merged from multiple reputable sources, combined with my own research. Also, script-based utilities to help you create such things yourself. Updated at least once every two weeks, often more frequently.

Hello, what is the advertising software for Android phones without root?

bongochong commented 2 years ago

In your situation, especially because you have issues accessing certain github-related domains and subdomains, I highly suggest ReThink. This is not to disparage other solutions, but I believe that it would be ideal for you, given the issues you have been encountering due to your location. My hosts file is included as an option in the app and on the website. Just use the search function and look for my github name. You can choose from a variety of other lists as well.

P.S. I am closing this issue but if you have any other questions please feel free to leave them here. I have gone through a lot of different devices and have used pretty much all of the open source content-blocking applications on Android.

I'm just asking if there is any good recommended advertising filtering softwarem Do you use open source software? Don't you use adguard?

This is my first contact with open source software, so I'd like to hear your opinion

In terms of advertising, adguard is the strongest, but it seems to look at your commentsI don't like adguard Why?

bongochong commented 2 years ago

AdGuard actually has open sourced a lot of their software (though not everything), and I'm not aware of them collecting user data without consent. That being said, I do have a preference for FOSS, so I have mostly stuck with applications that are licensed as such (e.g. ReThink, Blokada, DNS66, and AdAway w/no-root mode) when I've been limited to an Android device that cannot be rooted. Because of your particular situation, I highly recommend ReThink, because it would allow you to circumvent the issues you've experienced accessing lists hosted on GitHub, as it functions somewhat differently (encrypted DNS with modular blacklisting via the resolver, as opposed to fetching external lists and applying them locally). All four of the applications I mentioned are open source or completely FOSS.

Can't you add rules and advertisements when adding DNS in your own country or region? Can only use thinkdns to advertise?

biange200 commented 2 years ago

Rethinkdns how to set custom rules and dns

I looked at it. The official didn't say how to customize rules and DNS

bongochong commented 2 years ago

You can choose any number of block lists you would like after clicking the change button. Try it out, and feel free to try any of the other options I've mentioned, but please remember that I am not support for any of these applications. I am simply recommending what I think would be the best option for you.

biange200 commented 2 years ago

Are you mainly using rethinkdns now?

bongochong commented 2 years ago

At the moment I solely carry a rooted device, so currently am only using AdAway. I have tried out all of the options I've mentioned over time though, and can vouch for each one, but my github is not the proper arena to discuss support for these applications, as I do not maintain any of them. I suggest browsing through forums like XDA for further recommendations, and if you encounter any problems with the applications I've suggested, to direct those to the project maintainers themselves.

biange200 commented 2 years ago

Thank you for your reply. The network connection of this software in China is not good I think I'd better use something else. What's the website of XDA

bongochong commented 2 years ago

https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/android-apps-and-games.530/ You can find detailed discussions on a number of content blocking applications (and many other types of software) for android there.
