Hi there David. This domain made its way into my block lists via AdGuard's DNS filter, and the EasyList + EasyPrivacy lists. I will assess and reach out to you if I need any more info. Thank you for the detailed report.
Edit: I am still assessing. I was also mistaken earlier, as the entry is still in AdGuard's DNS filter.
@david-bmetric at your leisure, can you provide me with examples of sites where having the domain in question blocked would prevent a user from accessing crucial functionality? A screenshot or two to illustrate such issues would be great too. Apologies for moving a bit slow on this, I just always try to do due diligence, and am still fighting a cold.
Thanks for your quick reply, here are some examples :).
Let me know if you have more questions :)
Hey @david-bmetric! Still quite under the weather, but for now, I opted to only make an exception in my ABP/uBO filter lists (see: 1, 2, 3). I have chosen to do a variation of what EasyList's default and privacy subscriptions do, but with a few exceptions for the example sites you listed.
The filter is currently as follows:
||telemetric.dk^$third-party,domain=~bmetric.com|~nexi.de|~nexi.swiss|~tjm-forsikring.dk|~tryg.dk
My reasoning for not going farther than this is simply that, while more consensual than usual, the domain in question is still, for all intents and purposes, involved in telemetry. I highly suggest opening a report on the EasyList and/or AdGuard issue trackers, as I would estimate that over 98% of the block lists you come across pull in entries from one or more of the commonly used filter lists maintained by those two entities. Being able to see feedback from their contributors on the topic would also be highly informative for maintainers of smaller projects like myself.
I am closing this issue, but please feel free to update me if you do decide to communicate with AdGuard or EasyList. I will be keeping an eye on their issue trackers regardless.
Hi, my name is David Hirst, and I work for a Danish company called bmetric. I'm writing to request the unblocking/removal of telemetric.dk from your blocking list. We fear it might have been incorrectly added, assuming it was used for another purpose. The domain and script are owned by bmetric, a Danish SaaS company, which uses it to deliver our script (software) to customers. It's important to highlight the privacy-friendly and unique attributes of our tracking system and why we believe it should not be blocked.
The script is only found on our customers' websites if they choose to install it and only tracks customers if they accept cookies. On these websites, bmetric's script is crucial for essential website elements, such as contact forms and other functionalities that allow visitors to communicate directly with the company. If our script is blocked, contact with the company is often prevented.
bmetric offers both a tracking and a non-tracking version of our script. The tracking version is only activated upon explicit user consent. This ensures that we respect user privacy and adhere to the highest standards of data protection.
When tracking is enabled, it is strictly first-party tracking. This data is not shared with any third parties, nor is it used to create profiles across multiple websites. Our primary goal is to enhance the user experience and provide valuable analytics solely for the website in question. We are based in Denmark and comply with all aspects of Danish and EU data privacy regulations when handling any data we do collect.
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like more information about anything in particular.
