At it stands, each site has a fixed spatial covariate value (assumed to reflect habitat quality), which affects species occurrence probability (in theory could also be allowed to affect detection probability).
There is also a time trend effect on occurrence to allow species to decline in occurrence over time.
To model effects of declining habitat quality, we could expand the spatial site covariate to be a space-time matrix and directly allow the habitat quality values to decline over time.
Or just assume species decline through the time effect?
