Create/Print Case #35

The outer diameter of the tip of the connector is 9.6mm, however the two attachment points that poke out make that need a height clearance of 11.1mm.

At the threaded point, the width is 12mm and the height is 11.2mm.

The case printed with holes of 8.3mm height and 11mm width. I think part of the height issue is because there weren't any supports, so when it went to print the top side of the BNC holes is drooped down. This is an easy fix. I'm guessing the dimensions can be fixed in sketchup? We should probably add 1mm to each dimension to be sure of a good fit.

Latest print looks great. USB is spot on. The three BNC holes are a bit too low, though. You can clearly see the BNC edge of the PCB is at a downward angle to fit properly. It's hard to measure exactly how far the holes need to come up, but I'd say 3mm as a start.

Here are some measurements that may help, taken while out of the case:

As a final note, the size of the BNC holes can definitely use some optimizing (they're on the larger side), but I would prefer to leave them as-is for now. The other adjustments are more important.

Thanks for the updates Brian. Coincidentally the new BNC connectors I order/received are slightly shorter than the original ones. When soldered to the board, the top of the BNC connector is aligned with the bottom edge of the atlas chips, meaning the atlas chips are now slightly taller than the BNC connectors (~1mm); hopefully this perfectly compensates for the holes being slightly to low. I went ahead and ordered a caliper so I should be able to provide more exact measurements when they arrive this Monday.

@letsgitgrowing I think the 'Prayzo' indentation is going too far through. Under each letter there is only one 'face', instead of there being 1-2mm thickness below. If you look at it from the bottom of the github viewer you can see it's not sure how to render it.

@letsgitgrowing I'm printing the bottom right now so I'll let you know how that turns out. However, there may be some inverted normals there as well because the makerbot software adds some weird pieces through the middle. I can cut them off but I'm not sure why they're there.

Brian,

I think I have the 'Prayzo' indentation fixed; I have committed it to github and also attached it for convenience.

@brianfoshee I committed a new case top and bottom. The bottom doesn't look right in the github .stl viewer but it looks solid in sketchup. Can you load it onto the printer and see what the preview looks like on there?

The top is pretty much the same, I just made it slightly large to account for making the bottom slightly larger.

@letsgitgrowing the bottom loads as a single block in makerbot. Try loading it in monochrome mode in sketchup, that should show which faces are inverted.

Thanks Brian, will do.

Viewing in monochrome helps quite a bit, thanks for the suggestion! I made a few minor tweaks but the .stl viewer on github still looks off, can you get makerbots opinion on the matter?

^Disregard, looks like I didn't fully understand the monochrome view; github .stl viewer looks good now : )

Thanks again for the pointers!

Looks solid in makerbot! Printing it now, should be done around 8pm.

:) thanks again for all your help Brian.
