A lot of the functionality of LOBE lends itself quite well to an API service, to mention a few:

Accessing a recording
Accessing information about a specific collection
Uploading a reading list
Uploading a verification
etc.

In the long term it would be beneficial for the whole of LOBE if most of it's core operations are performed via a robust REST API.
