Yes, I agree. I went through the list every couple of months in the past to remove obvious candidates, but we should probably be more radical there. I just removed 15+ of my branches plus all old release and maintenance branches.
It's a pain to navigate the list of branches on the repo; we're about to hit triple digits. A number are over 10,000 commits behind. Unmerged feature branches can stick around in case we decide to pick them up in future, but there's a lot of branches related to closed PRs and issues which we could probably do without. Github has a list of stale branches, and a list of your branches: clearing out some of the intersection would make the branch list more informative, useful, and navigable from the console.
