Wait so there can be 16bpp images inside the NSD files?
Whoops, it's an 8-bit indexed image (at least the Crash 1 loading image is). I also thought it could be an IMAG and an IPAL together since their format is similar to what you see in the NSD. It could be a VIDO in Crash 2/3.
All I know is that it's a 16-bit image put directly onto the framebuffer (the upper area aka the screen). The resolution of the image itself varies, but I know Crash 1 loading screen images are 0xF500 long.
