Submit your add-ons in this issue, thanks for your contribution! Submission template:

**Title:**
**Description:** (a short description to be shown on the addon download window)
**Proposed category:** (pick one of the existing categories (https://celestia.mobi/resources/), or suggest a new one)
**Demo Object Name:** (optional, the name of the main object used for Go to command)
**Author(s):**
**Release date:** (The date this add-on is released. If left empty, will be the date the add-on is uploaded here)
**Link to download:** (Please use zip to package the addon)
**Image:** (optional, no UI control element, HUD display, label. Avoid using "tall" pictures (height > width))
**Thumbnail:** (optional, by default will be the downscaled version of Image if present, so unless you want something different to show as a thumbnail, leave it empty)
**Additional metadata:** (optional, this can be anything that web supports. Link, image, audio, video, text, attributed text, cel URL, cel/celx scripts, embedded stuff (for example a YouTube video)...)

For updates to existing add-ons, please attach the id to the add-on and only include updated fields from the template. For removal of add-ons, please attach the id too.

The id is part of the link to the add-on: For example, this addon below has an id of A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3 https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3

Check before uploading an add-on

Your add-on will be running on Android/iOS/macOS/Windows, to enable maximum compatibility, please ensure that

  1. files names referenced in models, ssc, dsc files, etc are exactly the same as the actual file names (some file systems are case sensitive. For example if in your .ssc there is Mesh "Progress.cmod", then the file name should be exactly Progress.cmod not progress.cmod).
  2. Textures should have width/height of power of 2 (for example: 1024 512, a texture of 1000 500 will not work on many mobile devices).
  3. If your add-on requires specific Celestia versions, please mention in the description. Please also ensure that your add-on should not crash running on other versions.
  4. If you are updating an existing add-on, note that existing users will not see an update button, so it might be a good idea to include version history in the description.
  5. Please try to use smaller files for image/thumbnail/other metadata. For example, use JPG if alpha value is not needed.

Example:

Proposal to change:

Spacecraft 2 to Spacecraft (2000 - Now)

and only include Spacecraft that were launched after 2000, also need to migrate some from the original Spacecraft category to this category

I'm not sure about which year we should use though, assuming the category can expand to more than 200, then we would need a third category.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Sounds good. We definitely could arrange Spacecraft addons by which Era they were launched. Will make a comprehensive list of posted spacecraft addons later today

levinli303 commented 2 years ago

@DaveBowman2001 yeah after the list is given, I think we can know which year to make the cut. also, can you include the addon id in the list. the addon id is the one after "item=" in URL

for example: https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3 addon id is A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3

HD 209458 addon update. Previously there was a problem with the star name in the STC file and the addon did not work. It has now been fixed.

Title: HAT-P-15

What's changed here? The screenshot looks like the default exo-class3 texture.

HD 209458 addon update. Previously there was a problem with the star name in the STC file and the addon did not work. It has now been fixed.

The previous version was correct. HD 209458 has a HIP catalog number and is in Celestia's default star database, so any modification to it should refer to it by that number. If no names are listed, all names already present will be retained. See https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Celestia/STC_File & https://www.classe.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/addon-intro.html

Your stc file, which uses the name "HD 209458" and no HIP number, results in that HD designation being listed twice (HD designations are also in the default star database) and the variable star designation "V376 Peg" being removed. Also, why did you remove HD 209458's texture? If you're going to do that, there's no need to modify the star at all.

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

The STC file also lacked the quotation marks in the star name. Putting the quotes is necessary for the addon to work.

I decided to remove the star texture due to the fact that Celestia's original texture is already very good. I think there is no need to insert other textures. And what's more, it's less textures to load, that is, less crashes on not very powerful devices.

SevenSpheres commented 2 years ago

No, the best way is for the stc file to have only the HIP number (not in quotes) without any name (in quotes). Please read the stc and addon guides.

Please do not arbitrarily remove content from other people's addons. The default exoplanet textures are also very good; this is an artistic addon to give the star and planet custom textures.

Suggestion: Rename the Errai (624EADDE-5D2A-7083-D092-CD749E1E0104) addon from Errai to Gamma Cephei. The system right next to it (Epsilon Eridani) has Ran as its proper name, yet the addon doesn't use it on the title. Errai isn't that used by the general public either.

Title: Gamma Cephei

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Seems like the Exoplanets category also need to be split into separate groups now that it's also nearing the 100 addon limit any day now. Gurren and Tom suggested it would be divided to Eras as well similar to what we did with Spacecrafts. Will compile a list later in the weekend.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

I don't think we should add Virtual Texture addons here just yet, mainly because they're very heavy on mobile drives. Not that I'm against this as they are truly impressive in PC. However, most mobile devices only have average 32-64 GB of total space in their internal and SD drives

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

@DaveBowman2001 is a reduced version, for Moon the zip file is only 7 MB and for Mercury only 5 MB. I only took levels 1 and 2 of the addon.

They do not cause fatal crashes. If it was the full texture (32K or 64K), I think it would blow up any smartphone lol

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

I see. Also, I suggest that JVV's "middle" name be written as "van" instead of "Van" to allow them be grouped into a single page if viewed by author. I noticed that the mobi site is case-sensitive with these things, for example, the Iapetus addon (which was also co-authored by him) was unintentionally separated from his other works

On the side note, I made an error on his "third" name's spelling lol (Vilet instead of Vliet), which I requested a change to it on the above post

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Okay, I've already made the small changes. Oh, and another small problem. You wrote 2028 AG37 instead of 2018 AG37 in the update you made.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Lmao. Fixed it, thanks
