Submit your add-ons in this issue, thanks for your contribution! Submission template:

**Title:**
**Description:** (a short description to be shown on the addon download window)
**Proposed category:** (pick one of the existing categories (https://celestia.mobi/resources/), or suggest a new one)
**Demo Object Name:** (optional, the name of the main object used for Go to command)
**Author(s):**
**Release date:** (The date this add-on is released. If left empty, will be the date the add-on is uploaded here)
**Link to download:** (Please use zip to package the add-on, it should contain a file called description.json)
**Image:** (optional, no UI control element, HUD display, label. Avoid using "tall" pictures (height > width))
**Thumbnail:** (optional, by default will be the downscaled version of Image if present, so unless you want something different to show as a thumbnail, leave it empty)
**Additional metadata:** (optional, this can be anything that web supports. Link, image, audio, video, text, attributed text, cel URL, cel/celx scripts, embedded stuff (for example a YouTube video)...)

For updates to existing add-ons, please attach the id to the add-on and only include updated fields from the template. For removal of add-ons, please attach the id too.

The id is part of the link to the add-on: For example, this addon below has an id of A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3 https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3

Check before uploading an add-on

Your add-on will be running on Android/iOS/macOS/Windows, to enable maximum compatibility, please ensure that:

  1. files names referenced in models, ssc, dsc files, etc are exactly the same as the actual file names (some file systems are case sensitive. For example if in your .ssc there is Mesh "Progress.cmod", then the file name should be exactly Progress.cmod not progress.cmod).
  2. Textures should have width/height of power of 2 (for example: 1024 512, a texture of 1000 500 will not work on many mobile devices).
  3. If your add-on requires specific Celestia versions, please mention in the description. Please also ensure that your add-on should not crash running on other versions.
  4. If you are updating an existing add-on, note that existing users will not see an update button, so it might be a good idea to include version history in the description.
  5. Please try to use smaller files for image/thumbnail/other metadata. For example, use JPG if alpha value is not needed.

Example:

Update to "1SWASP J140747.93-394542.6" (A92C28F8-FA29-A64E-1608-0297A0AC18B4). Now compatible with version 1.5.5, seems like the parent star was removed from the TTEC, so this will be moved to the Hypothetical & Disproven category

Description: Popularly known as J1407, it is a K-type main-sequence star about 454 light-years away in the constellation Centaurus. It has a super-Jovian planet or brown dwarf with the largest ring system ever discovered, measured at a whopping 90 million km (about 745 times larger than the rings of Saturn). However, by 2021, it was discovered the parent star is strongly variable, with a 5.4-year long magnetic activity cycle, thus potentially disproving the planet's existence Proposed category: Hypothetical & Disproven Demo Object Name: V1400 Cen Link to download: J1407.zip

....should be moved to a "Fictional" category, since these are fictional nebulae.

Seems like it's about time to do a category for general fiction (i.e. not part of any franchise/worldbuilding project)

Fictional

This category hosts various addons that are not part of any worldbuilding projects. Addons for sci-fi media which have no groups of their own are also included here

Title: Avatar (2009) Description: This addon depicts the primary setting of James Cameron's 2009 film, Avatar. In that film, the planet and its moons were discovered orbiting Alpha Centauri A in 2050, and the planet was close enough that by 2137, humanity is able to explore it with their recently developed FTL technology within six years. The primary story of the first film and its sequel takes place on a habitable moon known as Pandora, which is home to a sentient humanoid culture known as the Na'vi. Title: TrES-2 (by trappistplanets) TrES-2 Ab is an exoplanet orbiting the star TRES-2 A located 750 light years away from the Earth. The planet has been identified in 2011 as the darkest known exoplanet, reflecting less than 1% of any light that hits it. This system was within the field of view of the Kepler space telescope. Proposal to move "1SWASP J140747.93-394542.6" (A92C28F8-FA29-A64E-1608-0297A0AC18B4) to the "Hypothetical & Disproven" category since the wasn't listed in the confirmed/unconfirmed planets of the TTEC anymore

If inclusion in the catalog determines whether a planet should be categorized as "unconfirmed" or "disproven", GD 356 isn't in the catalog either. In this case though, J1407b isn't disproven; rather, the most likely scenario is that it does exist, but isn't in orbit around J1407. See https://arxiv.org/abs/1810.05171 & https://arxiv.org/abs/1912.03314

There seems to be an issue with the TOI-709 addon where it's loading before the Unconfirmed Exoplanets addon, resulting in duplicate planets if both addons are installed. Changing the ID of the TOI-709 addon so it alphabetically comes after that of Unconfirmed Exoplanets (e.g. changing the leading 0 to a 1) should fix this. Is it possible to change addon IDs?

Is it possible to change addon IDs?

@SevenSpheres no. what we can do is remove the existing add-on from the category so it is not visible from add-on list, and re-create an add-on with a desired ID.

levinli303 commented 2 years ago

im adding a special type of add-on. Add-on with content that can modify the content of itself.

Take a look here (not working at the moment because it will require some code changes)

This add-on is basically the same as stock ISS, so when it is installed, there should be no visible difference. But after you click Update ISS Position (after Celestia is updated to support it), the SSC will be updated with the current orbit ISS.

This is done using a mix of javascript and lua. Basically the button will send a request to fetch latest TLE data of ISS (available on https://celestrak.com) in javascript, and then compute the orbit values that can be used in SSC. After this, a celx Lua script is generated and executed to modify the content of the add-on (if file access is granted).

I can see that currently operational spacecraft add-ons and maybe cloud map add-ons can leverage this method of being dynamic.

@DaveBowman2001 The addon creator didn't make any reference to this, but I would consider it a good idea. What do you think? On Motherlode, there are addons that add spaceships like Discovery, which could go well with this addon Jupiter Star. I don't understand very well about this movie and I never got to watch it to see the details.

In the interest of keeping exoplanet statistics up to date...

Update to Kepler: Description: Kepler was a NASA space telescope, launched in 2009 and decommissioned in 2018, to survey a portion of Earth's region of the Milky Way to discover Earth-size exoplanets in or near habitable zones, and estimate how many of the billions of stars in the Milky Way have such planets. During Kepler's primary mission, it observed 530,506 stars and discovered 2,709 planets, in addition to 2,057 planet candidates yet to be confirmed. During its extended "K2" mission, it found an additional 537 planets and 958 candidates.

Update to TESS: Description: The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS, Explorer 95) is a NASA space telescope designed to search for exoplanets using the transit method in an area 400 times larger than that covered by the Kepler mission. Launched in 2018, TESS has discovered 204 new exoplanets, in addition to 3,700 planet candidates yet to be confirmed (as of 2022 March 31).
