For Updates to Existing Add-ons

For updates to existing add-ons, please attach the id to the add-on and only include updated fields from the template. For removal of add-ons, please attach the id too.

The id is part of the link to the add-on: For example, this addon below has an id of A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3 https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3

Check Before Uploading an Add-on

Your add-on will be running on Android/iOS/macOS/Windows, to enable maximum compatibility, please ensure that:

  1. File names referenced in models, ssc, dsc files, etc. are exactly the same as the actual file names (some file systems are case sensitive. For example if in your .ssc there is Mesh "Progress.cmod", then the file name should be exactly Progress.cmod not progress.cmod).
  2. Textures should have width/height of power of 2 (for example: 1024 512, a texture of 1000 500 will not work on many mobile devices).
  3. If your add-on requires specific Celestia versions, please mention in the description. Please also ensure that your add-on should not crash running on other versions.
  4. If you are updating an existing add-on, note that existing users will not see an update button, so it might be a good idea to include version history in the description.
  5. Please try to use smaller files for image/thumbnail/other metadata. For example, use JPG if alpha value is not needed.

Example:

Title: Kepler-1649 Description: The Kepler-1649 planetary system, which is a red dwarf star orbited by a Venus-analogue and an Earth-analogue. Alternate surfaces for planet c are included. Proposed category: Exoplanets Demo Object Name: Kepler-1649/c Author(s): SevenSpheres Release date: 2020-07-16 Link to download: Kepler-1649.zip Image: Untitled

For New Categories

If a New Addon does not fit into any existing category, you can propose a new one by following the format below:

**Short Name**: (used when context about parent category is given somewhere)
**Full Name**:
**Description**:
**Parent**: (N/A if it is a root category)
**Children**: (N/A if it is a leaf category, you might want to change children's short names to be concise)
**Image**: (must be about 3000 * 1000 pixels in size in order for the whole image to fit)

Example: For Parent Category Full Name: Exoplanets Description: Artistic Impressions of real exoplanets arranged by confirmation status and discovery years Children: Early Years, Kepler Era, TESS Era, Unconfirmed Image: image

Example: For Children Category Short Name: Unconfirmed Full Name: Exoplanets: Unconfirmed Description: These addons depict the star systems whose planets were spotted but is yet to be confirmed by follow-up observations Parent: Exoplanets Image: image

How long will it last with Jestr's Star. Best regards from Germany

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Submissions here will become online about 1-4 weeks after first posting (usually 1-2 weeks). So please be patient, even I and @SpaceExplorer2008 had no control when the updates will become available. Asking these kind of questions on a regular basis will not help us at all. I hope you understand

Title: 216 Kleopatra Description: 216 Kleopatra is an M-type asteroid in the asteroid belt. It was discovered in April 1880 by Johann Palisa. Kleopatra is about 120 km in diameter, and a striking feature is its shape of an elongated bone. It has two moons around it, Alexhelios and Cleoselene, both were discovered in September 2008.

NOTE: This addon updates and modifies the existing version of asteroid Kleopatra in Celestia. It also adds Kleopatra's two moons.

Hopefully, will be made by this week. Just finding a suitable Astro-related news to accompany it

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Okay then.

GitHub is a bit problematic today, the Kleopatra addon image didn't attach, and it's not even possible to delete the post. Most of the uploads I do by smartphone, in my opinion it's more practical, I don't know if this problem is happening on the computer. This already happened a while ago.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Try uploading them as JPG files (as lev suggested long ago). It is much faster due to its size and reduces the chance of uploading failure, at least on my end. I submit addons here through my laptop

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

But the image is JPG, so simply uploading the image doesn't happen. I believe it is an instability on GitHub. A long time ago, this already happened, but after a few hours it returned to normal. I will continue submissions when I get back to normal.

Title: Diwata-1 Description: Diwata-1 is the first Filipino microsatellite ever put into space. It is a small 50-kg cubesat dedicated to Earth observations and technology demonstration. It was launched and deployed from the International Space Station on 2016-Apr-27, and it imaged the Earth continuously until it reenters the atmosphere on 2020-Mar-20.

Lessons learned from operating this satellite led to the creation of the country's STAMINA4Space program currently operated by the newly established Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) in 2019.

I found a solution, while GitHub is unstable I will save the addon image in Drive and put the link. Later I will make more submissions, yesterday I extracted more than 30 addons from Celestia Origin between asteroids and comets.

@levinli303 In my next submissions, the addon image will be on Drive.

Title: A comparison of the accuracy of the orbits of the 9 major solar bodies in Celestia. Description: This addon compares the orbital accuracy of Celestia's different versions. Note, there some oddities caused by multiple objects being in the same place, mostly it involves the textures. These were purposely left in. This addon was updated from its original 2019 version to include textures files that are default to Celestia version 1.6.1 due to those textures being updated. All of the data and textures are from the original Celestia versions 1.0 and 1.2.4-1.6.1 and the only edit to the files were to make version 1.0's definitions work (due to the original SSC file having a different structure) and have each object have the correct texture. Also version 1.0's Saturn will appear as a solid black sphere if ring shadows are on due to the ring texture being a JPEG rather then a PNG image.

Title: Al-Amal Description: Al-Amal, known internationally as the Emirates Mars Mission or simply Hope, is the first of three spacecraft bound for Mars that was launched in July 2020, along with Tianwen-1 and Perseverance/Ingenuity. It is the UAE's first interplanetary mission, and it reached Mars successfully on 2021-Feb-9, just days ahead of the two aforementioned probes. From its unique high Martian orbit, it will study daily and seasonal weather cycles, weather events in the lower atmosphere such as dust storms, and how the weather varies in different regions of the planet. It will also add to knowledge about Mars atmospheric hydrogen and oxygen loss and other possible reasons behind the planet's drastic climate changes.

@SpaceExplorer2008 I put out an NEO catalog update which mainly added info URLs to all the objects.

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Yes, I will upload the update soon, there are so many asteroid addons to upload that I had to queue up lol

Another interesting suggestion is to use Celestia Origin's "asteroid-small.cmod" template for NEOs.

Anthony-B-Russo10 commented 2 years ago

I only used asteroid.cms due to not having Celestia Origin installed, I can swap the model, I just need a copy of the model file.

many of you are still not following the correct format.

Description (Legacy) is required. Please also put "Image" inside the non-legacy Description if you want the image to be displayed.

SevenSpheres' is a good example that follows the format.

Why not upload an addon including, say, the first 100 periodic comets (except for spacecraft targets) instead of uploading them all separately?

Proof-of-concept: comets.zip

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

thought of several ways to upload comets before submitting them here. I also thought about the possibility of making an entire catalog in just one addon. So, what really made me doubt was that there were separate comet addons (spacecraft targets), whether they should be included in the catalog or remain separate.

In case all comets are kept separate, it would help to expand the category of comets as well as create more detailed descriptions, also including information on how to visualize them (eg 3D Biela, which is necessary to change the time in Celestia). Obviously, all comets will not be submitted in the Celestia Origin catalog here, as there are more than 1000 comets, this would be something impossible for me to do. After adding all comets up to 20P, then I will add only the most important ones, like 21P Giacobini-Zinner, 46P Wirtanen, 109P Swift-Tuttle, among others. Maybe I can expand to add them all up to 30P, 40P and beyond depending on how it works. But thanks for the tip, I'm thinking of keeping all comets separate, but also creating an entire catalog in a single addon for anyone who wants to.

my two cents are we should not let a single category grow too large. even though there is now no limit for the number of addons a category can contain, you should still consider splitting large categories.
